Image: YouTube After suffering being struck by a projectile at Tuesday's Occupy Oakland evictions, Iraq war veteran Scott Olsen is lucid and awaiting brain surgery.

The Guardian reports Olsen "responded with a very large smile" when his parents arrived from Wisconsin to visit him at the hospital. Medical officials say Olsen's able to write and hear, but is having trouble speaking.

Meanwhile, Oakland's Mayor Jean Quan who left town after authorizing the raid, has separated herself from the police. Quan said, "I only asked the chief to do one thing: to do it when it was the safest for both the police and the demonstrators."

Her interim police chief then denied his men had used rubber bullets or flashbang grenades. His goal he said, "... isn't to cause injury to anyone."

In response to the police tactics, OccupyMARINES has issued a formal list of requests in Oakland. Whether these requests are pursued or met should be an indicator of how strong or extensive this branch of the movement has become.

OccupyMARINES Have Watched Closely The Response From The OPD, The Mayor, The Governor, And All Others Involved In The Oakland Attack On Peaceful Demonstrators; We Have Observed These Pathetic Cowards Refuse Responsibility For Their Actions That May Very Well Alter The Course Of Our Brother’s Life. Additionally, Many Other Police Departments Nationwide Deploy Similar Riot Tactics Against Demonstrators Honoring The OWS 8, A Peaceful Declaration Of Assembly; We Will Organize Peacefully Against These Departments.

In Response To The Oakland Shooting Of Scott Olsen OccupyMARINES Request The Following:

The GOP Cowards Responsible For Influencing This Event Be Brought To Justice. Track Names And Photos Of Each And Email Them To Us Identify The 300 OPD Riot Officers By Name, Photo, And Badge Number With Boots On The Ground Engaging In Illegal Excessive Force Acts Against Peaceful Americans For Prosecution. Identify The Officer Responsible For Harming Scott Olsen By Name And Photo For Prosecution. The Honorable Resignation Of Oakland Mayor Jean Quan And Acting Police Chief Howard Jordan. A Public Apology From California Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. For The Unlawful Injury Of Our Brother Scott Olsen.

We Fully Intend To Make An Example, Legally And Peacefully, Of The Corwards Associated With Harming An American Veteran. We Will Not Stop Until Our Aforementioned Demands Are Met In Their Entirety.

Otherwise, this event is tragic for the ex-marine but works to the good of our society if the Marines begin to see that they too are serving evil and should remain poised to protect the people regardless of orders from above.

To share some information I have discovered in the last year, remember the Veterans for Peace and their D.C. protest last year? The Marine identified in this thread is a member of that organization. See http://www.veteransforpeace.org/

I have been reading all over the web remarks identified as being from "Iraq War Veterans" on forums where I would not have expected to find past or present military members. I have yet to find any reference to their being VFP members until I went to their home page.

In my research last year for confirmation that the D.C. protest was something I could support, I soon discovered that some of the "leaders" of Veterans for Peace are known leftists. I would suspect they get monies for activity in protests such as what we are seeing now as coming from some of the known left wing contributors.

I'd like to think that what we're witnessing surpasses party politics or preconceived notions of government "isms". I'm in full support of this "stand" against the current situation even if some commies are enlightened enough to have recognized it. The conditions the country is suffering is a direct result of the activities of those they've been taught to respect and trust (from both parties equally).

These folks are able to speak with each other and thereby learn from each other and their shared experience. I keep being pleasantly surprised by these young people and their ability to determine for themselves right from wrong.

They deserve a fair chance to develop their own strategy. These youngsters have been raised in one of the most propagandized eras in the history of man and might have much difficulty believing anyone.

In the end they will have to live with the outcome.

Everyone with an objective mind and average intelligence would be wise to remember THERE ARE NO SPONTANEOUS, UNCOORDINATED, NATIONWIDE POLITICAL PROTESTS IN THIS COUNTRY.

All Americans should keep this in mind when viewing the protest(s) as they develop. Remember ... if the "government" WANTED to stop the protests, they would. They have been setting up the wagons for years and, when they see the need, will surround us and end the problem.

Perhaps I should point out to those still doubting we have the freedom to organize and protest that the "Occupy" protestors were able to gather and make themselves known without permits, which is directly opposite of that required by the Tea Party organizers. The Tea Party attendants also carried a like message and didn't leave their crap for others to clean up, quite contrary to what we are seeing today.

P.S. I might ask, what positive actions/experiences came out of Woodstock, in the 60s??? One marked result I see today that I believe can be directly attributed to that gathering is all the Marxist/socialist/communist politicans that we see enabling or developing the ruination of our republic. At the end of the day, you will witness that all this has been designed to keep buttwheat, his cronies and all the evildoers in their position of power.

I wouldn't suggest that these protests are spontaneous and would admit that there are those that would like to co-opt them for their own purposes ... on all sides of the political spectrum.

I missed Woodstock (darn it) as I was still in the service. Seriously though, they (the establishment) sure did put many of us to sleep with sex, drugs and Rock and Roll. We may have awakened to our problems much sooner had we not partied so much. Then again, life is truly very short.
