Iranian researchers have successfully developed an anti-cancer medication using the venom of scorpion and snake.
The Iranian-made drug, which has been developed after 10 years of research, has showed successful results in laboratory conditions, Fars news agency quoted President of Iran's Razi Vaccine and Serum Research Institute Abbas Zare, as saying on Tuesday.
The anti-cancer drug produced from snake and scorpion venom peptide now awaits the permission of the Iranian Ministry of Health and Medical Education before being tested in humans, Zare' said.
Many countries are conducting research to discover new cancer medications based on different animal's venom; none of these studies, however, have achieved acceptable results, he added.
The official went on to say that Iran will hold a regional congress on poisonous animals from November 22 to November 24, during which a number of articles on the new anti-cancer medicine will be presented.
