UFC Heavyweight Title: Cain Velasquez vs. Junior Dos Santos

Velasquez is an undefeated Mexican-American fighter with great wrestling, solid striking and elite cardio. He hasn't fought in over a year following a shoulder injury. Dos Santos is undefeated in the UFC, a boxing specialist with good takedown defense and great power. Velasquez is a big crowd favorite fighting in Southern California. The crowd is really hot for the main event.

Round 1. Velasquez lands a couple leg kicks. He catches a front kick and tries for a takedown but can't get it. Dos Santos drops Velasquez with a heavy right hook. He continues with punches on the ground, Velasquez turns his back, and the fight is stopped 64 seconds in.

Winner: Junior Dos Santos, TKO, round 1.

Junior Dos Santos is emotional describing how happy he is to have won. He says he was scared about the fight going in. The crowd gives Dos Santos a big positive reaction despite being in Velasquez territory. Velasquez vows to get back his title.

I saw it and even though I was pulling for Junior I was surprised that he won in just barely over a minute. But then I am sure that he would probably say that he doesn't work by the hour.

I don't watch ppv either. This one was a freebie on Fox. Apparently the UFC and Fox have made a deal to show some of their fights. They won't be showing the ppv that is coming up on the 19th and I won't be seeing that one but I was glad I got to see this one. I like Dos Santos. In fact, I like most of the Brazilian fighters.

Oh, some of the UFC fights are really knock down, drag outs and they go on a good while, or can. But Junior is so powerful with his punches that if he lands one it's pretty much lights out. That's what happened to Velasquez. Junior rung his bell good right on the ear and he lost his equilibrium and it was all over. Junior was on him like a rat in a cheese factory. Brock Lesnar (rated #3) has a fight coming up with the fourth rated guy and if he beats him then he will get a shot at Junior for the belt. And Brock has been champion before (Velasquez beat him in the first round of their fight). But if Junior lands one on him early the result will probably be about the same as it was tonight.

i quit watching for this kind of stuff for the same reason i quit playing chess... it brings out the killer in me.

seems to me like it's unhealthy to feel like clubbing someone.

juesus undoubtedly would have been a big fan of this kind of stuff, expecially it it's two mexicans beating eather other senseless.

it's always the same old quandary... you've got to defend yourself, but if you take pleasure in beating people up, you've turned as bad as the people you're defending yourself from.

i was a good boxer, good left jab... and the same trick worked every time... you keep jolting the guy with the jab, and then, when he starts adjusting his defense to deal with the jab, you left jab and right cross, almost simultaneously... the guy never sees the right cross coming.

in real fights, though, i usually wound up with some big guy sittimg on my chest... which is a pretty good position to be in... your shoulders are braced against the ground, and if you punch properly, you can cut the guy's face to ribbons with straight-armed punches while he's flailing at you with roundhouse punches that are mostly good for breaking thumbs.

sometimes you can get your arms around the guy's neck, get him in a headlock as he's sitting on you... that knida eliminates the possibility of him punching you, and maybe he can sense, too, your disregard for his well-being.

you dont intend to break the guy's neck... that would be more on the order of collateral damage as you were defending yourself.

To me, his Brown Pride tattoo is another example of hypocrisy and political correctness run amok. If a white fighter had a tattoo that said White Pride everyone (or almost everyone) would be denouncing him and calling him a racist. Yet nothing, or nothing much beyond whispers, about Velasquez and his Brown Pride tattoo--he claims to be Mexican, not Mexican American, even though he was born in the US and was educated in American schools paid for by American taxpayers (his folks were illegal aliens from what I have gathered). If he is so proud of Mexico and "Brown Pride" maybe he should move there? Just sayin'.
