UFC Heavyweight Title: Cain Velasquez vs. Junior Dos Santos

Velasquez is an undefeated Mexican-American fighter with great wrestling, solid striking and elite cardio. He hasn't fought in over a year following a shoulder injury. Dos Santos is undefeated in the UFC, a boxing specialist with good takedown defense and great power. Velasquez is a big crowd favorite fighting in Southern California. The crowd is really hot for the main event.

Round 1. Velasquez lands a couple leg kicks. He catches a front kick and tries for a takedown but can't get it. Dos Santos drops Velasquez with a heavy right hook. He continues with punches on the ground, Velasquez turns his back, and the fight is stopped 64 seconds in.

Winner: Junior Dos Santos, TKO, round 1.

Junior Dos Santos is emotional describing how happy he is to have won. He says he was scared about the fight going in. The crowd gives Dos Santos a big positive reaction despite being in Velasquez territory. Velasquez vows to get back his title.

I saw it and even though I was pulling for Junior I was surprised that he won in just barely over a minute. But then I am sure that he would probably say that he doesn't work by the hour.

I don't watch ppv either. This one was a freebie on Fox. Apparently the UFC and Fox have made a deal to show some of their fights. They won't be showing the ppv that is coming up on the 19th and I won't be seeing that one but I was glad I got to see this one. I like Dos Santos. In fact, I like most of the Brazilian fighters.

the tattoo he sports would leave one to believe he is a member of the gang. the gang would not think twice about dusting him if he was not a member in good standing for displaying their ink.

This is what he says about it (for whatever it's worth):

"I got this tattoo for two reasons. One, for everything my parents did to come over to this country, all the hardships they had crossing the border. ‘Brown pride’ when we were growing up meant ‘Mexican pride.’ That’s how we would say it. It’s something to say if we’re proud about where we came from. What my Dad did, my Mom did to get over to this country to me means a lot. I’m proud of where I came from. I’m proud of what Mexican people stand for. We’re known as hard working people. We’re known as fighters. We’re known to have a lot of heart. We’re known to never give up in the gym and have a lot of cardio. To always work hard. The work ethic that my Dad, all the Mexican people bring out in the fields and stuff, we bring to the gym and whatever else we do. Another reason why I got is because when I was growing up I didn’t have anybody to look up to. There’s nobody that was my size that was Mexican that looked like me that I could see in the media. I pretty much didn’t have those dreams of ‘Hey, I can do that stuff. I can be in the media, I can play professional sports.’ I didn’t have that. I didn’t have anybody to look up to so now that I’m in that position, I put ‘Brown Pride’ on my chest to let people know ‘Hey, I’m Mexican. I’m proud to be Mexican. I’m doing good things.’ For those people that just don’t know the story behind it, that’s all I can say. The only thing I can do is clear it up by doing interviews like this."

To me, his Brown Pride tattoo is another example of hypocrisy and political correctness run amok. If a white fighter had a tattoo that said White Pride everyone (or almost everyone) would be denouncing him and calling him a racist. Yet nothing, or nothing much beyond whispers, about Velasquez and his Brown Pride tattoo--he claims to be Mexican, not Mexican American, even though he was born in the US and was educated in American schools paid for by American taxpayers (his folks were illegal aliens from what I have gathered). If he is so proud of Mexico and "Brown Pride" maybe he should move there? Just sayin'.

I have brown pride too, but it's usually due to what I deposit in the toilet.
