Two cases of child sex abuse alleged against Jerry Sandusky have been opened by Children and Youth Services in Pennsylvania.

The cases were reported less than 60 days ago, and so they are still in the initial stages of the investigation.

If they are found to be credible, these would be the first known cases to be reported since Sandusky’s arrest that involve current children. All of the other publicly known cases of alleged victims coming forward have been adults.

In Pennsylvania, when an adult comes forward and alleges abuse -- even if it happened when that person was a child -- it’s solely a police matter. CYS only participates in the investigation if the victim is still under 18.

This new information could give credence to a growing debate over whether Sandusky should have been arrested more quickly.

When a 15-year-old Clinton County boy first alleged crimes against the former football legend and charity founder, police opted to open a grand jury investigation instead of making an immediate arrest.

It was a surprise move to the family of the boy, now known as Victim One.

And, it became a point of wonder for others in law enforcement when The Patriot-News first reported earlier this month that, for the first 15 months of the investigation against Sandusky, there was only one state trooper assigned to the case.

It wasn’t until the fall of 2010 that agents from the state Attorney General’s office got involved, and then when then-Attorney General Tom Corbett was elected governor and took office in January 2011, he appointed state police commissioner Frank Noonan, who increased the number of investigators to eight.

That was when things really started to take off. It wasn’t until January 2011 that Joe Paterno, fomer athletic director Tim Curley and vice president Gary Schultz testified. It wasn’t until April that officials from The Second Mile testified.

None of the other seven cases of alleged abuse, outlined in the grand jury presentment, were known until more investigators joined the team.

The 1998 police report -- which never led to charges when investigated by missing district attorney Ray Gricar -- wasn’t found until late 2010. That file was found around the same time that assistant coach Mike McQueary was contacted for the first time by police.

McQueary testified before the grand jury that he’d witnessed abuse in 2002 and reported it to Schultz and Curley, but nothing ever came of that investigation.

As a result of his testimony, Curley and Schultz were charged with perjury and failure to report a crime.

But none of the cover-up investigation began until 2011. And it wasn’t until after The Patriot-News broke the story of the investigation in March of this year, that officials from the Clinton County school district where Sandusky had allegedly spent time with Victim One were subpoenaed.

Gricar’s former staff members were not interviewed until after March 2011.

And Jerry Sandusky’s home was not searched until this summer — two and half years after the investigation began.

In response to questions about the length of the investigation, Corbett said yesterday:

“The one thing you do not want to do as a prosecutor is go on one case. ... You want to show a continued course of action.”

If a first set of charges are filed early and “you were to lose that one case, it would be much more difficult to bring charges in other cases because it would be seen by you, by the public, as vindictive,” he added.

Corbett noted that decisions on filing charges or working to build a stronger case are made with the team of investigators. He did not address why only one investigator was assigned to the case until late 2010. His spokesman, Kevin Harley, has said that information is not accurate. However, The Patriot-News confirmed it with several sources close to the investigation.

“These are professional prosecutors who are ... making tactical decisions which you all are questioning. And you have the right to question that,” Corbett said. “But these are people who have experience in these fields, and they made decisions that I agreed with when I was there, and that current Attorney General Linda Kelly has agreed with thereafter.”

Corbett is such a lying, equivocating, POS.

Are there recall elections in PA?

That guy's as guilty as all the rest.

It's good to see Tommy Corbett starting to take some serious incoming. His malfeasance was evident from the get go, but the Mid Stream Media somehow missed that. Jeez...what a shock. Even with Tommy signing off on the hiring of Louie Flack Freeh, I think his chunky olde ass is going to go down.

Here's the latest, and please keep in mind my feelings toward Sandusky. A quick one to the temple would be too kind and something I wouldn't find shocking, should it - god forbid - happen.

Sandusky has one thing going for him, it is the State of PA who has cobbled together the case against him. Who is the State? Two politicians with law degrees. Had they been successful in their law careers, I’m doubtful they’d have become even bigger whores. That said, there is currently no accuser/victim in the 2002 case that the state has produced. That's the worst crime of the bunch that we're aware of. With no victim and a shaky eye witness, Sandusky seems to have lucked out on that one. To complicate matters, Amendola claims to have found him.

The following is an exchange Amendola is said to have in his back pocket;

Amendola: "Did Mike McQueary see you in the shower with Jerry?"
Victim: “Yes.”
Amendola: “When?”
Victim: “2002, it was late at night, we were wrestling around naked in the shower.”
Amendola: “Did Jerry Sandusky anally rape you?”
Victim: “No.”

Could this sick and bizarre behaviour be enough for some on a jury to suggest reasonable doubt on the charge of rape? I’m not sure. In fact I’m not sure what the State has as a case since the actual testimony hasn’t as yet been released. Today, in fact, AG Kelly asked for a postponement because she wasn’t ready to proceed to trial. This after a more than three year investigation? Odd. Perhaps she has a good reason for the delay, time will tell. Furthermore, today it's coming out that even the guidance counselors at Central Mountain HS (Victim #1) were advising the boy and his mother not to pursue charges and the school in fact did not go to authorities until the mother went directly to child services. The school also tried to persuade the mother from not going to child services. Again, odd. Maybe the school didn't think those claims were credible? I'm betting Amendola will have each and every preson in that loop under deposition ASAP.

Yesterday on CNN Mark Geragos of OJ Simpson fame, expressed concern over the State’s case. I’m told he went as far as to say if he represented S, he’d expose serious flaws in the investigation. I’m curious to the learn of the details he finds flawed. It’s break out the popcorn time here in State College, so sit back in your favorite olde chair and get ready for a Dateline episode in live time.

PS: In 1999, when Sandusky was released from the team, as part of his retirement package he was granted professor emeritus status. This 'entitled' him to an office on campus, a telephone, and access to the entire campus. This compensation with benefits was the decision of President Spanier's alone.

Damn!

Should we all be so fortunate.

If properly and honestly investigated, this could make OJs trial look like a jay-walking offense.

On November 24, 1976, his weather spot came up just after a report of a violent rape of a five year old girl.

Tex, thereupon quipped: "With rape so predominant in the news lately, it is well to remember the words of Confucius: 'If rape is inevitable, lie back and enjoy it.'"

wikipedia

i got to say that when a country gets raped wholesale, there's something wrong with confucius's reasoning.

and there's something really really really wrong with Tex suggesting a five- year-old girl could lie back and enjoy being raped.

He did not address why only one investigator was assigned to the case until late 2010.

It would be interesting to know who that was, and his history.

I bet his only purpose was to bury everything. One person can do that. Add more people and there is a risk of exposure.

“The one thing you do not want to do as a prosecutor is go on one case. ... You want to show a continued course of action.”

According to this Corbett statement, when there is only one case, don't bother prosecuting it because if you lose, that's it. What he really is saying is it is easier to control and coverup and hope it ends at that point. Standard coverup jargon!

It didn't take 30 some months to build a case. It took 30 some months to get all the coverup ducks lined up and to hopefully build the coverup plan. Since they are busy trying everybody but Sandusky so far, they might get rid of everyone including the governor. He was at the prosecutorial quarterback position as the attorney general when this whole thing started, and he fumbled the ball. Now he is trying to make himself look like his only goal as governor is to make excuses for fumbling the ball, by blaming others.

He should do the right thing and resign!

I think it was Capone that said "3 can keep a secret if 2 are dead".

Put only one person in the "investigation" and you don't have to kill 2 others.

They lied about that too. The press did its job and found out that lie, but I wish they had included his name. IMHO it is an important lie that they discovered.

Now he is trying to make himself look like his only goal as governor is to make excuses for fumbling the ball, by blaming others.

Shocking! What a creative tactic that is!

corbett seems to have an inside track with the neocons... ridge and exxon and whatever...

the most interesting thing i can think of, is.... corbett's got some insureance, like ...maybe a negative of ridge and a donkey...? ...or something like that.

these people seem to be capable of anything, so it's hard to know where to draw the line.

Don't forget about Freeh. People forgot about that little rat bastards history.

I get the impression that they thought they had it all contained, right up until the time that it all blew up in their faces. And now they are scrambling to try and save their sinking ship. IMO they didn't have time to coordinate the coverup.

i did forget about him... he ought to get everybody off the hook except the goats that have already been designated.

it just looks to me like everybody's so dirty, they all got so much dirt on each other, including enforcement, politicians, media, corporations --everybody- - that justice is really a long shot.

if PNAC/AEI/likud tentacles reach down as far as corbett, then you got to deal with israeli pressure, too.

well, corbett, according to wikipedia, is only 62...

he's got a decade or so of imperial service left in him if he's politically sound... maybe he's scheduled for big things once he's completed his stint in the minor leagues.

of course, there's always the possibility of that negative... although photoshop has kinda put a kink in that kind of thing...

All true.

This is why I already compared this to a potential Watergate type scandal. It's not just PSU that is involved.

I'm glad that at least some of the press is digging deeper.

If it had been anything other than raping kids, they might have gotten away with it. But IMO the nature of these crimes night very well keep that cover-up from happening. People do not like pedophiles or those that try and cover-up for them.

so if corbett wasnt a customer of sandusky's, maybe he'll get a pass?

or is the fact that he covered up for the pedophiles make him guilty enough?

nevermind, i see you've already answered... i didnt read closely enough.

I see this as a campaign to weaken and demoralize us by dragging down into the dirt one of the few things that we collectively hold sacred - foopball.

It's just part of a steady rain of depressing shit we have to listen to day in, day out.

The glacial nature of our injudicious judicial system guarantees that all of this crap will drag on for months.

Meanwhile, the looting goes on unabated and on an industrial scale.

I see this as a campaign to weaken and demoralize us

some of us are already demoralized to the max, when it comes to faith in the system.

so, for those people, it becomes a matter of triage... what do you let go, what do you try to save? ...or maybe, first, you decide what you can save, what is too rotten to save...

i think what people will have to do, if they've still got faith in the system, is become completely demoralized, and work through that before they start thinking about the triage.
