While September 11, 2001 is well known as the day when the U.S. suffered its worst terrorist attack, what is little known is that it was also a day when large sections of the armed forces around the nation had been preparing to fight a simulated nuclear war, as part of major training exercises being conducted at the time. In their annual exercises "Vigilant Guardian" and "Global Guardian," the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) and the United States Strategic Command (Stratcom) were scheduled to carry out what has been described as a "simulated air war," a "full-blown nuclear war" exercise, a "fictional nuclear war," and a "practice Armageddon."

This article is very long. Am archiving the link here for the evidence that Defcon 3 is oddly the highest level of alert and readiness that was implemented that day, rather than Defcon 1 for immenent attack(s)/attack(s) in-process. This is from a post by the article author in the comments section:

It is difficult to know the reasons for Rumsfeld's actions, such as why he ordered the military to Defcon 3. At present, we can only make educated guesses. This is one of many reasons why we urgently need a new and unrestrained investigation of 9/11, to find out the full truth of what went on and who was responsible for the attacks.

I think the fact that the evidence I've presented in this article isn't already common knowledge alone proves there has been a massive cover-up of the truth about what happened on September 11.

The Sept. 11th hijackers might have known in advance that the military was going to be preoccupied that day. I suspect that at least one or two of the hijacker pilots had some training on a serious jet, possibly a Saudi military or commercial jet, or at least getting a lot of advice from a veteran of military or commercial jets -- that's how they figured out about the transponders, the thrusters, and some other details that wouldn't be on those small planes they trained on in US-based flying schools.

Someone with military or airline connections, even foreign ones, might have been able to ferret out some advance warning of the Pentagon war games (such as "foreign defense systems should not be alarmed that on Sept 11th, US fighter planes will be all over the map"). It is even possible that some inkling of the military aircraft maneuvers would be communicated to commercial airlines, including foreign ones. If one of the hijackers had the right connection, even with a foreign (Arab) pilot, he might have been able to share that information with his accomplices.

I've thought the same thing. They had someone inside the defense establishment who knew some details of this military preparedness drill and tried to that to their advantage, hoping that the drill would cloud anything out of the ordinary with confusion.

Very cunning if they did have an insider.

The hijackers wouldn't have required much of an insider. Presumably, to avoid panicky reactions, the Pentagon would have made sure that commercial airlines flying in/to the US and foreign defense agencies knew in advance that all that military jet activity was just war games. So, I would suppose, anyone in the right spot - not even terribly high up - in a commercial airline (even a foreign one) or a foreign defense agency would know and could have told the hijackers. Didn't require one of the "nomenclatura" to convey this information.

Our military works with a lot of foreign military at the higher ranks, often for decades. This would be my first suspicion. For instance, the Luftwaffe still flies and trains out of the Southwest. And we train Saudis and others as military pilots as well, part of the total package which is value-added component of our sales of military jets to those countries. I think the small Gulf oil states participate in this as well.

My first suspects would be high-ranking Saudi military or mid-level Saudi pilot trainees since 15 of 19 hijackers were Saudis.

15 of 19 hijackers were Saudis.

You'll notice that the yearbook photo montage of the "19 hijacker" hasn't been flashed on screens for many years. We didn't even get a glimpse of them on the amid the tears and flapdoodle of the tenth anniversary.

They were all boobs. Look up their pitchers. Look into their eyes. These were all losers, and I'm familiar with the type.

I'll warrant not one of those guys was on a flight that day, let alone in a cockpit.

Well, you'd need to provide proof of that.

If, in fact, they did not fly those planes, don't you think al-Qaeda (or whoever plotted 9/11) would have had enough brains to realize that they couldn't allow them to live? So the ongoing flapdoodles over one hijacker or another being spotted in public (out of a population of hundreds of millions of Arabs and Mideasterners of which any person has at least a dozen near matches in appearance) seems lame to me.

But then, if you want to believe something, these kinds of "facts" are so much more convincing, aren't they?

There's wishful thinking and pet theories. Then there is undeniable scientific evidence. Truthing is pretty weak on the latter.

No sir. It is you who have to provide evidence that they were where the cultivated mythology has put them.

Then there is undeniable scientific evidence.

Knock yourself out. We'll settle for some garden variety evidence. You'll have a deuce of a time digging that out, let alone technical evidence of any kind.
