The Senate last night codified into law the power of the U.S. military to indefinitely detain an American citizen with no charge, no trial and no oversight whatsoever with the passage of S. 1867, the National Defense Authorization Act. Detention

One amendment that would have specifically blocked the measures from being used against U.S. citizens was voted down and the final bill was passed 93-7.

Another amendment introduced by Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Dianne Feinstein that attempted to bar the provision from being used on American soil, an effort to ensure “the military won’t be roaming our streets looking for suspected terrorists,” also failed, although Feinstein voted in favor of the bill anyway.

Feinstein was able to include a largely symbolic amendment which states that “nothing in the bill changes current law relating to the detention of U.S. citizens and legal aliens,” but this measure is meaningless according to Republican Congressman Justin Amash, a fierce critic of the bill.

“Some have asserted that Sen. Feinstein’s amendment, S Amdt 1456, protects the rights of American citizens and preserves constitutional due process. Unfortunately, it does not. It’s just more cleverly worded nonsense,” Amash wrote on his Facebook page.

Though the White House has threatened to veto the bill, the fact that Obama administration lawyers yesterday reaffirmed their backing for state sponsored assassination of U.S. citizens would suggest otherwise. Not voting for the bill, or in other words upholding the oath to protect the Constitution, has been described over and over again as “political suicide”.

“The bill puts military detention authority on steroids and makes it permanent, American citizens and others are at greater risk of being locked away by the military without charge or trial,” said Christopher Anders, senior legislative counsel for the American Civil Liberties Union.

As Spencer Ackerman highlights, the bill completely violates the sixth amendment in that it allows American citizens to be locked up indefinitely, including in a foreign detention center, without any burden of proof whatsoever. An American merely has to be declared a terrorist and they can be abducted off the streets and never seen again.

“The detention mandate to use indefinite military detention in terrorism cases isn’t limited to foreigners. It’s confusing, because two different sections of the bill seem to contradict each other, but in the judgment of the University of Texas’ Robert Chesney — a nonpartisan authority on military detention — “U.S. citizens are included in the grant of detention authority,” writes Ackerman.

And the proof for that is _____________________???

Just saying it doesn't make it so. Well, with some I guess just saying it does make it so.

But a republipuke, that would otherwise automatically be disbelieved, is able to throw the "patriots" a bone, suddenly making himself into a believable "patriot".

These fuckers are liars, except when they tell people what they want to hear. Then people believe them.

Same with the ACLU. They aren't exactly known for being patriotic either. I mean they defend NAMBLA. They'd probably defend Sandusky too. Pedophiles have rights, you know.

Where is the proof that this applies to US citizens? Is that too difficult a question to ask, or answer? I guess it is. You'd have to take a plainly worded clause that a 5 year old could understand and twist its meaning 180 degrees. I used to think it took someone with a theology degree to do this. I guess I was wrong.

And of course the courts would rule on the side of it granting the authority to do just that.

Have 97 senators been bribed, blackmailed, or otherwise coerced into committing treason? Or are they just happy to turn this country into another Soviet Union or worse just because they apparently CAN?

Where is the proof that this applies to US citizens? Is that too difficult a question to ask, or answer?

not that this would concern you, but what if to be a US citizen = taking the mark of the Beast?

http://www.hisholychurch.org/news/letters/markletters.php

edit...excerpt:

"The Mark of the Beast is simply the "badge of servitude" given by System of the Beast to identify you as one of his servants who must labor night and day so that the Beast may have power.

In the picture you see slaves wearing Charagmas. Charagma is the Greek word translated into Mark in the book of revelations. A charagma was a "badge of servitude" made by etching the important information about a slave in soft clay and then baking that clay. This worked also as a free pass around the city when fulfilling the assignments given slaves by their employers.

It could be written on paper as well. The essential quality of the Charagma or Mark is that it is a badge of servitude issued by an authority that is like the beast of the Roman Empire. It is issued by the Image of the Beast. [The U.S. http://www.hisholychurch.org/news/articles/romeus.php ]....

...The Romans were record keepers and servants had to be kept track of for their protection as well as their masters.

Originally slaves in the market place were given dried clay tablets to identify who their owner were, and what their qualifications and origins might be. If such tablets were baked with the seal of the owner they took on a permanency that protected the slave from unwarranted detention as he traveled through the public streets on errands for his master. That etched document was referred to as a charagma which was a badge of servitude.

The SSN is a badge of servitude where you have become a surety for a debt by your agreement under oath[penalty of perjury]. If you have an SSN you are a slave by definition. That is shocking but true.

See: Employ vs. Enslave

See: Charagma vs. Card

JUSTAKID said: and you will not be able to buy or sell without it.

Gregory says:

And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. (Rev 13: 16-17) ...."

isn't that interesting.

the Image of the Beast. [ http://www.hisholychurch.org/news/articles/romeus.php ]

the us is a corporation, with corporate "personhood", as such, given "life" [by sucking the labor and lifeblood of flesh and blood people], and thus has been given "a mouth to speak"

Rev.13:15 And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast [Rome] , that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed. bible.cc/revelation/13-15.htm

something to think about...all scripture given for an example, and all.

You're right. It doesn't concern me.

The only thing that concerns me is getting to the truth in a straight manner. That is something that is lacking here. People are grasping at straws while looking for a "smoking gun". This bill is not it. It's not even a smoking cap pistol. It's not even a smoking extinguished match.

If this bill was to be fought, it should have been fought for detaining indefinitely without trial those foreign suspects in custody.

Unless, of course, someone can prove me wrong. I am not holding my breath waiting for that. That would be suicidal. But I posted my skepticism out in the open, lets see if it can be refuted out in the open. Refuted, not disputed.

BTW, did you watch that vid you posted the other day? Re: Paul and Cain? If so, you still think Paul is honest?

I think I am on to something here.

What a great way to distract the "patriots". Get them to fight something that doesn't even exist. Again, "patriots" rendered completely ineffective. Patriots lose again. The GWOT marches on. And on. And on.

i don't disagree, but so many battles, so little time.

i still don't see what you're saying. i tried to go over the text and started going back over the military commissions act, and it looks to me they have decided they can pretty well do whatever they want.

sorry to say i have not watched the video yet...my printer broke down and threw a wrench in my madness, and i have been tiptoeing around all my windows trying to prevent a total crash before i make notes of everything. i'm really not a Rand follower...isn't he a zionist?

I don't know much about him being a zionist or not. I didn't care about him in the past and care even less about him now. Those that think he's some kind of freedom loving libertarian need to watch it.

I don't want to say too much about it. I don't want to unduly influence your opinion. When you get the chance, just watch it. his words are plainly spoken.

and it looks to me they have decided they can pretty well do whatever they want.

Agreed. But this bill is not it.

Also, regards the article, how many people did infowhores have to contact to get the opinion desired by the writers? I wonder. That's one way to get a personal agenda across without having to state it yourself. And as a bonus, no specifics have to be given, just an "expert" opinion.

And you just know that they are not going to be honest and tell of those contacted sources that disagree with their agenda. No, it has to be made to look unanimous. It adds to the credibility...
