Inspectors told the regional Volksstimme newspaper that they immediately confiscated the animal from the Bao Viet restaurant in Magdeburg and sent it away for testing. It must now be examined to see whether the animal had diseases, Eike Hennig, the head of the local health department told the Volksstimme, adding that he had never seen such a bizarre health code violation. Officials are worried the beast may have had rabies or be infested with trichinella, a worm parasite that can invade the human body and cause severe neurological damage. Eating foxes is forbidden in Germany under food hygiene regulations that ban the consumption of dog-like animals. It is unclear, however, whether the restaurant owners will face fines or other punishments. It is also not yet known if restaurant customers may have already been fed fox meat. There is also uncertainty surrounding the question of whether the animal was found dead or killed for the purpose of human consumption. Authorities are investigating the possibility that the animal was slain illegally by poachers. The restaurant owners told inspectors that they killed the fox themselves for personal use, according to the Volksstimme. The Local/mdm Poster Comment: Article comments: bugger The owner must be fined in any case, and the imbiss closed down. It is illegal - to poach - to catch wild animals - to kill protected species - to kill a mammal unless you are a certified butcher or legal hunter (certain animals only) - to prepare and serve meat ruled unfit for human consumption - to prepare and serve meat ruled unfit for human consumption in the same kitchen where food for customers is prepared. I am aware that in Viet Nam almost everything alive is eaten. Also, food is prepared on the sidewalk touching the pavement. This is a cultural thing. But by handling and preparing food for selling it to customers in Germany, they must have known in advance what is legal and what is not before opening their business. Even worse if people already unknowingly have eaten dog, cat, rat and more in that disgusting place. puisoh It was once said, Chinese eat everything with four-legs except tables and chairs. Was also a saying, anything with its back facing the sky can be eaten. But they are not known to eat rabbits so pasionately as the Germans and the French. I am almost vegetarian.
