Saudi report claims women at wheel will have sex APAP – 4 hrs ago

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) — A Saudi rights activist says a report given to a high-level advisory group claims that women in the kingdom will have options for premarital sex if allowed to drive.

The ultraconservative stance suggests increasing pressure on King Abdullah to retain the kingdom's male-only driving rules.

Rights activist Waleed Abu Alkhair said Saturday that the document by a well-known academic was sent to the all-male Shura Council, which advises the monarchy. The report by Kamal Subhi claims that allowing women to drive will threaten the country's traditions of virgin brides, he said.

Saudi women have staged several protests defying the driving ban. The king has already promised some reforms, including allowing women to vote in municipal elections in 2015.

Simple solution, only let them drive after they are married. No, wait, then they'll cheat on their husbands, forget it.

The way to fix this problem is to make sure the cars have no back seats.

Modern propaganda as defined by Jacques Ellul is the systematic immersion of the public in a particular way of looking at the world.

The king had better get with it. We had women's suffrage here about 100 years ago. ;)

The muslims are just fucking insane, they're a boat anchor on the advance of Western Civilization and become a blight upon whatever city they show up in outside of the ME.

Islam is judaism's thuggish little brother.....

There's a lot that goes on in that country in dim and secret corners. There is a ton of repressed sexuality yearning to get to the surface, and the beards are crapping themselves trying to keep a lid on it.

I could tell stories here, but I won't. There are all kinds of illicit things going on there that go on there on the QT, and that is where they will stay. The punishments for those who stray are severe, so participants in trysts of any and all kinds will keep their affairs quiet.

Conservatives want to keep things this way. They are terrified that they will some day find themselves in a world where two unattached people can shack up at a motel without being reported to the police, or where porn is available at the corner drug store. I would say having lived there that Saudi mores and standards are roughly those that you would find in a European city a couple of hundred years ago.

i was in jeddah in the late 70s... the saudis decided to rebuild the country, and they ordered the cement, but apparently forgot that they had no port facilities to unload the cement, so they hired us to unload the ships with helicopters... dozens of tramp steamers, loaded with cement, parked offshore jeddah, waiting to be unloaded... and the saudis were paying demurrage.

anyhow, we lived in a nice new building owned by a sheik that supposedly lived on the top floor... we lived right under him.

alshohol: tons of it, brewed by a saudia airlines pilot, american.

girls: saudia stewardesses... granted they had to observe a curfew, and get back to their dorm by midnight, or whatever the time was... but they hung out when they werent flying at some kind of sports club swimming pool, and i have never seen such expanses of young human female flesh... they were competing with each other... brits, french, mostly.

music: riding in a cab, tape blasting, in the dead of night, half in a bag with that wild arab music swirling around you was wonderful.

more music: we had big stereos in the hostel, and i blew out a couple big speakers - -like hundred watt speakers-- playing american rock music, but we never heard any complaints from the sheik who lived right above us.,, i'm still ashamed of myself for being so inconsiderate.

transportation: company van to work, cabs, and public buses... i'd take the bus to the pool, and as i climbed on, hungover and shaky, it seemed that the passengers could tell how bad a shape i was in, and were sympathetic and amused at the same time... got good vibes from the people.

the stewardesses constantly whined about the treatment they got from arab men on the streets --pinching, ass grabbing-- but you should have seen how they dressed, competing with one another.

overall, i got the impression that these people had seen a lot, and drunk american pilots were just another in a long succession of mild and amusing catastrophes.

hanks for the report from the front lines.

you're welcome.

maybe things have changed... i dont know.

the fact remains: if judaism and christanity were such good ideas, they would sell themselves, and we wouldnt have to be bombing muslims.

i got to admit, though, that choosing one of the abrahamic religions is like choosing what you'll have for lunch... you want fried shit sandwich, boiled shit sandwich, or baked shit sandwich?

Thangs used to swing over there, and they still do if you hang out with a pretty exclusive set - the kind of folks that have the pull to get a container of Jack Black through the port without a customs inspection. But the Saud family has put a damper on the fun these days as they more and more have to compete with Salafists and other conservatives finding seats of power across the region. The King is styled the "Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques" and "King" second.

a pretty exclusive set

well, i wasnt a member of any exclusive set.

the fact remains: the everyday people i ran into seemed to have an appreciation of humanity a sense of humor, and tolerance.

if your religion was such a good idea, people would buy it.

they're not.

I don't have a religion. I get along swimmingly with all the members of the abrahamic religions though. They seem to like me real well although I tell them that I am a secular person.

What I was trying to say is that there was a time not long ago when things were looser over there. Today you have to be more hooked up to enjoy some of those freedoms in private.

And I will say that I heartily agree with you that the people that I got to know there did have an appreciation of humanity a sense of humor and tolerance, yes.
