Gosh I've bin a scury scury terrust ever since I was a kid then. My mother ALWAYS had a pantry, and always had a reserve of stored food against hard times. If I have less than a month's supply of victuals on hand I start getting nervous. We had it drummed into us all as kids growing up, and I still overbuy essentials whenever they are on sale.
Geez Wally who'd a thunk. /s
Realistically, having a fully stocked pantry also means that if you want to make a recipe you usually have all of the ingredients on hand without going to the store for 1 item.
What this is really about is CONTROL. People who are on a short leash as far as food is concerned will do as they are told to continue eating. This, along with control of water, electricity, gas, and other basic essentials, are all part of the control grid. In part this is where the "Smart Meters" and created energy shortages come from - it is all a matter of CONTROL. Total control of every man, woman, and child.
