That video was posted by Austin Indymedia. Austin Indymedia has a reputation of excellence in how they cover what Indiemedia is there for. It is a good resource, I recommend it.

There are many Indymedia sites listed on the left mast of the Indymedia.org anchor site for the Indymedia system. So, anyone can usually find a close by Indymedia site to them that often has media stuff blacked out by the lame stream media.

True, Indymedia is very left wing in outlook. But no one gets a good picture of things just listening to the choir. I always enjoy Austin activists when they come to Oregon and take part i what we do. They are usually very intellectually sharp and savvy people.

David Chain who was murdered by a tree fallen on Pacific Lumber Land in the California North Coast was from Austin. I met his parents at the memorial for him in Arcadia, CA.

Creepy. I used to work in that mall...

I notice that the security guard that was so quick to come to his fellow mall cops aid was just as quick to push her out of the way when he wanted to fight the tap out dude.

And yeah, when the big guy with the little dick yanks her around at 5:50 ... that was fucked up...

Two arrests made at anti-war protest Cop: My handcuffs became a weapon

Updated: Monday, 05 Dec 2011, 12:34 AM CST Published : Monday, 05 Dec 2011, 12:31 AM CST

Jacqueline Ingles

AUSTIN (KXAN) - A man and a woman are behind bars following an anti-war protest held in the food court at Barton Creek Mall Saturday.

Ryan Connell, 24, is facing an interference with police duties charge and Nicole Mann, 24, is facing a criminal trespass charge.

A police officer working overtime said he was directed to the food court at Barton Creek Mall around 5 p.m. Saturday by a mall patron that noticed an anti-war protesting taking place.

An arrest affidavit states that about 10 elderly people were holding anti-war signs in the food court on the first floor and the officer asked them to leave the mall.

It was at this point that Mann asked one of the seniors for their sign and joined the protest, police said.

Mann was told to leave mall property and refused, according to police, and that is when she was placed under arrest.

While being handcuffed, Mann spun away from officers and had one of the handcuffs opening making it a weapon, the arrest affidavit states.

Mann allegedly began cursing at officers and pushing them away, police said.

Police said to gain control of Mann, the took her to the ground. However, once on the ground, the officer said Mann spun around and kicked him in the groin twice.

According to the arrest affidavit, the officer reported feeling sharp pains in his groin area.

It was at this time that Connell, Mann's boyfriend, allegedly grabbed the officer's right shoulder and yelled to get off his girlfriend, the arrest affidavit states.

Police said a mall security guard was able to get Connell away from the officer.

Connell's bond was set at $2,000.

Mann's bond was set at $500.

Has this been posted on You tube yet? It needs to go viral. That young girl was mishandled by uniformed officers. And this shit about the mall being "private property" needs to be legally challenged by an attorney especially where it involves the public on a daily basis. Unless there is a notice posted on all entrances of the mall concerning the exercise of ones First Amendment in a public place like a mall, I believe this young girl has standing to sue those officers in their individual capacities. It is not like this mall is privately reserved for people who pay annual dues to shop there. This mall is open to the public at large. Take that to the attorney. Have that attorney find out the full names of those officers on that video and their badge numbers. If you have the badge numbers but no names, you can sue them as Jane or John Does. You can amend the complaint later. It may well be that those officers are not employees but independent contractors for a security company that contracts with the mall owner.

I could tell she had not had non-violent Resistance training. They will likely prevail on these charges unfortunately. I have had cops try to get me to struggle like that and it took willpower not to let that happen.

Also the mall free speech issue is ainterestingng one. The U.S. Supreme Court had already held that under the First Amendment, there was no implied right of free speech within a private shopping center.

That is one of the problems with shopping done in these private malls; they have stolen much access to the public to do political activism people should be allowed to do in a public space.

States have the authority to grant greater rights to access as the California law requiring designated spaces for people to use to gpetitiontition signatures and to table for a group on an issue.

I wish her luck and say she got an education about the reality in these United States most are blind to. I hope she continues her education.

lol! Wow Christine, you sure have some radical friends. I am surprised that the bail is only $500 bucks if they allege she kicked him in the groin.

Nicole Mann, 24, is facing a criminal trespass charge.

if someone in CA kicked a pig in the groin, they'd probably get their head blown off & if luckily enough not to, theyd be brought up on numerous felony charges. I bet the groin kick accusation is either a lie, or if it happened, it was deserved.

This is not California law! We are talking the issue of color of state and federal law. We are talking about officers who use their power, while clothed in authority, to abuse their position to make false arrest, false charges, false imprisonment, kidnapping, for the purpose being to intimidate and coerce people to leave and prevent them from exercising their First Amendment on an optional basis.

Secondly, unless there is such a notice posted on the entrances of any mall that states in words to the effect that solicitation, or disturbing the peace of shoppers is prohibited, I do believe this young lady has a case against those officers.

And finally, case law is not the law. State statutory and federal law have precedence when it comes to violations of somebody's Constitutional Rights.

watch the video and see if you see two kicks in the groin. it looks to me like she was simply trying to defend herself by lifting her legs up. remember, at the point, the cop was hurting her. you can hear her say something about her wrist. Nicole was not part of the protest. she simply walked up and asked one lady for one of the shopping bags. she has retained a lawyer, btw.

Mike, I'll tell her. lol.

I did notice she had lifted up her leg in trying to defend herself. The question is WHY did they place her under arrest and under what charges in the first place? I do remember her taking a bag by one of the protestors and joining them in a peaceful protest. I did not hear anybody in this group yelling or disturbing other shoppers.

I'm on her side in this. You have to understand when we here do after action analysis of actions, we have people playing all roles in the group think involved in this.

I just mentioned California law as an example of a state making it easier to do something like this protest that should never have been interfered with.

I support all access for political activity in any public place, even that which is privately owned.

I was doing cop watch during a sweep on E13th Street here in Eugene in 1997 when a couple of hundred people were arrested and got grabbed too for walking on a sliver of private property owned by a business that had signed enforcement of that function over to the police.

I had that cop try to get me to fight to accrue additional charges on me. I do believe that for some reason I have some passion as well as opinion on this topic.

I highly resented my arrest then. I empathize fully with her feelings in this rregard quite well beause of some of my experiences.

They were not impeding traffic in any way either.

It is amazing how frightened the fascists who marry corporation to government are of people being made to think about something other than what to buy or how much to spend at a mall.

So the legal argument here for private business to open their business to the public is that the First Amendment only applies to them as far as the free speech limited to just commercial speech. That needs to be challenged...otherwise I say boycott that mall. I'll gladly sign that petition!

I saw her ball up but I did not see her kick him in the nuts. If she had it would of been assault on an officer and a felony and 500 dollars would not of been her bond.

I did not see anyone lay a hand on the pig either...granted the mall cops were getting in the way as much as they could. But from that video I saw nothing showing anyone putting their hands on the pig.

Interfering with police duties...How? By filming them? Since the swine only took her out the service exit the pig in question must of rounded up Ryan afterwards.

Ryan has a better case that Mann does. I can tell you all about trespassing problems. When you get trespassed you are expected to leave. Refuse and yeah arrest follows. I was kinda surprised to see them targeting a mall in the first place... It is a private owned thing not public space... Like a theater. Ruin the harry potter ending and I'm sure some cops will show up to do the trespass thing. You still enjoy your speech anywhere, but the business does retain it's right to kick people out or refuse service to anyone for any reason.

Also her time jail before she bonds out...it should be time served. It is not a very big misdemeanor. And the cops actions were questionable. And the pain in the groin bullshit sounds borderline sexual harassment to me. Honestly.. She did not kick him in the nuts but he writes some BS like that?

Creepy.

Ryan though?

WTF did he do?

Interference?

How?

Looks like a case of punitive punishment and illegal arrest from my view point.

Even with out the video , this cop managed to struggle with and subdue a perp single handedly escort her to the car and come back for this other fellow for interfering....

Ryan has a case.

I partially agree with their protest. The part I don't agree with is telling people not to buy toy guns and that ALL WARS are bad. Most of them are bad, but wars fought for freedom and justice IMO are morally OK. The USA itself wouldn't exist today without such a war. Of course protesting on private property where it could possibly disrupt sales is certainly something those leasing the stores would not want, especially if they sell toy guns or video war games. So I understand them wanting them to leave.

Firstly, war is a corruption racket. The fact that the United States government gets our military involved in international crisis like Iran, Iraq, and now Syria, is a racket in itself and serves nobody but the international bankers and owners of those bankers who have financed both sides of this war effort to keep the war going at the cost of human casualities. All of those involved in this war racket should be brought up on RICO charges.

Secondly, the reason why those people were in that mall was to voice their concerns about our buying products from countries that wage wars and/or consider us as Enemy #1 such as Mexico and China. The reason the people voice their concerns about these products is because Americans are being forced to purchase products from countries that we are at war with right now. This is called the Trading with the Enemy Act of 1950. It is a commercial statute that entitles the United States Dept of Commerce to continued to export and import defective and otherwise tainted products with poison for the purpose of doing business with rogue countries. That is why those people were there quietly protesting which is their Right! They have a right to voice their concerns especially where it involves our money buying crappy products that either poison our children, families and our pets! And businesses like this mall don't care about the safety of your family and pets. They just want your money and will gladly take it with a smile (which is the same as fuck you)!

China and Mexico are not at war with us. Without China proping up the dollar the USA would have already collapsed by now. China needs the USA now to keep their own economy from collapsing. If China's growth stops, or worse receeds, there will be a very bloody revolution in China. The Chinese leaders fear their own people even more than they fear the USA.

Also no one has the right to protest on private property if the property owners don't want them there.

God is always good!

We are at war with China and Mexico. If any American dares to vacation in Mexico, they may come back in bodybags! If you have been paying attention to the recent case about the U.S. General General Eric Holder and the Dept of Justice involved in gun smuggling operation (aka Operation Fast and Furious), you would know that it is our own government that is funneling war machines with Mexican drug lords which are causing our border patrol people to get shot at and killed.

In our public college schools, we have teachers telling our young children that China is not communist when the press tells the opposite story. I lived with communists chinese exchange students who came to this country on student visas and are working in our classrooms. Why are they here? To gather information about our technology the way we think and live. All this they report back to their communist government. We also had these communists working in our space program trying to get our American scientists to give them( the communists) U.S. space program trade secrets and inventive abstract ideas before these ideas were even patented. But some of us Americans could see through these chinese for what they were really up to and refused to give in our ideas and trade secrets. We went around them, through attorneys and patented our ideas and refused to cooperate in giving away trade secrets which would have breached our Security Clearance and the United States government. But those like Bill and Hillary Clinton would not care for it is they who gave the Chinese and Indonesian government our nuclear trade secrets.

And you say the Chinese government is not our enemy? Obviously, you are unaware they have purchased property in the United States, thank to our treasonous Governors of each State, and intend to work Americans at slave labor.

They will likely prevail on these charges unfortunately.

I wouldn't be too sure about that. That cop is shaking in his boots at the thought of a jury watching him brutalize that woman.

If you or I were charged we'd likely be convicted (you're mean looking and as ugly as an Easter Island statue and my manner of public speaking would probably irritate jurors)

But Nicole was selected simply because she wasn't old and frail and because the cop assumed she'd be easy to manhandle. Once she began resisting (like a pro too, I might add) he felt really stupid and nearly froze because he was being watched by a crowd, and that forced him to make the mistake of injuring Nicole in retaliation for his poor judgment.

That's the way the jury will see it once it's explained by a competent attorney. After all, if the cop attempted to cuff someone who did not submit to arrest before he subdued her he cannot claim that she suddenly exploded into a open handcuff-wielding threat and make it stick. In short you don't cuff until they're on the ground and immobilized. Instead of standing at her shoulder and then dropping his knee diagonally across her back he stood in the wrong spot where her kicks caught him in the groin.

He wasn't trained well enough to handle her by himself especially with a crowd that intimidated him. He first felt foolish, then angry. He should have called for backup and continued to direct her to submit to arrest instead of assuming that he'd be gigged for requesting backup for "one little girl", and trying to do it alone in front of hecklers.

He needs to go back to "remedial copping 101" for a refresher.

I'll give even odds that they drop the charges unless Nicole signals the intent to sue. If that's the case the prosecutor will give the judge the secret wink and nod and she can expect no justice in the courtroom. Sometimes that can help with a jury, depending on how reliable the "old faithful returning jury pool" is. They will try to stack the jury with old vets and commie haters who have convicted in previous trials and who "know what's expected of them."

It pisses me off to here she was injured and I really wish her luck in prevailing in court.

I can't help but be somewhat cynical in that regard after my experiences with the sytem when I was first convicted of trespassing unfairly before getting it reversed in Circuit Court where it was retried after I took it to the next level.

I was completely non-violent and had the cop blow in my ear trying to get me to struggle accrue another charge of resisting in me.

I have little faith in the system, and not a great respect or liking for most cops.to

The jerk who grabbed her was a bully and a badly trained fool. But my impression is that the system protects thee cowards from themselves, and is more interested in doing that than in dealing in fair and impartial justice.

I know two former Americans that that live there now and they tell a different story. China has more free enterprise today than the USA does. I know two former Americans that that live there now and they tell a different story.

No, but in 1997 I lived with communists chinese exchange students from Beijing, China, who when I asked them about the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989, and a book written by Chinese journalists who told the entire world about what happened there, these two students looked at me and flatly said, "Those journalists are liars...nobody got hurt or died." One of them grabbed the book I was referring to and threw it against the wall in pure hatred. This is the book http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tell-Wor..._Book&hash=item3a5928c3e7

What is more disturbing is that one of them was trying to gather information from me about my country by offering me two fucking dollars in exchange for small information. I told them no thanks and that I am not a traitor to my country. Mind you that these are chinese exchange students in my country! What are they doing here? They are posing as students all the while working as spies for their communist government.

Finally, a young chinese woman that I went to school with met me in the hall one day and we were talking about international law and chinese government and I made a comment about how this country has been so dumb-downed in believing by our professors who downplay the true government of China. She looked at me and said, "China is communist. When Americans go over there, they are always watched and certain areas they are prohibited from visiting. If you dare speak your mind about their government, they will follow you everywhere and make your life hell."

Please don't tell me about how great China is anymore than how great Mexico is. I have no desire to visit either country. China is ruled by a dictatorship and Mexico is ruled by drug lord families.

So he fractured her ribs?

Ok, add assault and battery to the counts. Wow! This is starting to look good for her because she definitely has standing to sue against those officers. I say sue the officers, their security company, and the mall for condoning this type of behavior.

ive been to china & surprisdingly had a very great time. However, economic "reforms" aside, the commie govt is indeed every bit as despotic today as ever. I found a recent book outlining all this. Ill post the details later.

I did a search & see that the pigs have added an assault on an officer charge & upped her bail from $500 to 10k. That is too bad. Hope she beats the charge! What a damn shame for this to happen when she simply went to a mall.

The cops' teeth are chattering with fear, so by adding the felony charge Nicole is supposed to run to a lawyer who will charge her 3 Gs, then he or she will come back with "Plead guilty to a lesser charge and I can get ya off". It has to be a big deal to justify his fee and Nicole is supposed to be grateful for some crooked lawyer getting a plea deal for her.

She should go to court and "appear without counsel", and when the judge tries to persuade her to hire counsel, or even offer her free counsel (so the conviction will be all nice and legal like) she should reply with, "No thanks, I'll muddle through somehow".

Remember, if she isn't convicted she can sue the mall for millions and it will be a major setback for the way all demonstrators (including people wearing American flag tee shirts) are treated by cops doing the bidding of greedy corporations. Let the jury decide based on the video. Otherwise she'll be forced to take a plea at best and she'll have a record forever. Even a possible appeal may fail if she has a lawyer. She'd be better off appealing a conviction if she appears without counsel.

That pig has a lot of nerve trying to portray her as a dangerous attacking thug.

He probably gets bullied by his wife at home and has testicles the size of sweet peas. I hope she prevails. I would love to see the faces of the jury if it gets that far as that fat 'It smells like Bacon!' oinker gets on the stand to talk about how the petite woman at the defendant's table brutally made him in fear of his yellow back striped life.

Sometime the shit in life gets so strange you could never make it up believably if you tried to.
