Title: POLL BOMBSHELL: Ron Paul Is Close To A Win In Iowa

Ron Paul, the once-forgotten presidential candidate, is picking up steam in Iowa and now appears poised to overtake frontrunner Newt Gingrich, according to a new survey released today from the left-leaning Public Policy Polling.

The poll finds support for Gingrich has slipped to 22%, with Ron Paul just behind with 21%. Mitt Romney trails in third place with 16%.

That's a five-point drop in favorability for Gingrich, who has raced to the top of the Republican presidential field over the past month. PPP found Gingrich's favorability numbers have fallen 19 points over the past week.

Meanwhile, support for Paul is on the rise, particularly among younger voters and voters who identify themselves as "new." Among likely caucus-goers under age 45, Paul leads Gingrich 30-16. The numbers are nearly flipped for caucus-goers over age 45.

But what Paul's fans lack in age and experience, they make up for in enthusiasm — 77% of Paul supporters say they are definitely going to vote for him, compared to 54% for Gingrich.

Interestingly, Romney's support is also stronger than Gingrich's in Iowa, despite Romney's relative absence from the state this fall — 67% of Romney supporters say they will definitely be voting for him.

In fact, there is strong evidence that Romney actually could have been a major factor in Iowa this year, if he had not stayed away from the state. As PPP notes, only 44% of Romney's 2008 supporters plan to vote for him this time — which means if he had just managed to keep his support from last time, he would be leading in Iowa by now.

The PPP survey finds the rest of the field largely unchanged. Michele Bachmann comes in fourth with 11%, down from 13% last week. Rick Perry stayed stagnant at 9%, apparently unaffected by his controversial gay marriage/war on Christmas ad last week. Rick Santorum came in with 8%, while Jon Huntsman rounded out the field with 5% support.

These polls are likely more accurate than the election results !

Geez, I hate the election cycle. I see those around me rooting for their longshot horse to cross the finish line in the lead. And it almost makes me ill to see these folks get all worked up, filled with hope, only to be let down every election.

If their guy happens to win he never does what he promised just like the current occupant and all of the previous puppets.

Good news indeed! With Paul's support being more solid than Gingrich's and Romney's a snowstorm on the day of the primary could mean a big Ron Paul win in Iowa! I am ordering my Ron Paul bumper stickers today!

I suspect that getting all worked up about Ron Paul and throwing a bunch of worthless FRNs at his campaign is much more satisfying than loading a bunch of 30 round magazines and killing Americans in a civil war.

If I get disappointed yet again, it still probably feels better than killing would, I suppose.

Until the war starts, I'll keep playing their silly game. After it starts, well...

I won't be let down one bit. The movement he's creating has *finally* taken root. Everyone on 4um knows once one becomes "aware" there's no turning back. Win, lose or draw, RPs effort this year is simply outstanding.

The local hot-shot talk yokel went through the whole Iowa roster numbers including Bachmann, Huntsman and Santorum, and then quite patronizingly gave Ron Paul the also ran treatment as a afterthought like they had to mention his name or get a flood of hot phone calls.

I'd love to call and stick it in their faces should RP take 1st or 2nd place.

Playing their silly game is only silly on our part, they're serious. And our "silly" game playing seemingly condones their corruption and pays for their efforts to destroy the country. Each new administration further locks down the country and increases the efficiency of the police state.

Why shouldn't they think we like it if we participate in the fraud and finance it. (Fucking bullshit).

I'd like to see him walk in to the next debate with a 357 and shoot the other candidates and the hosts - blow the smoke from the barrel and say - Black that out CNN-FOX-ABC.

Goddamn, that was the high-point of an otherwise crappy day.

You mean last time when I donated for the ad in the paper supporting Ron Paul in the primary? You mean THAT election?

Ron Paul is the only honest candidate in this election cycle. Turns out he was the only one in the last one too.

Now, if you were not such an antisocial son of a whore, I might share why President Obama has pissed me off over the past couple of years; but as I said, I don't suck up to anyone. Especially someone with a bully's chip on his shoulder.

Dose this mean you can't find a shrubbery, or you just don't want to bring one?

Thank you Lod, I appreciate the kind words.

I've spend a good part of evry Saturday helping to run a Ron Paul booth at the Wayne Morse free speech square by Eugene Saturday Market after watching how much local traction Obama's Saturday Market booth -- the only one there last year -- got.

Fellow Dr. Paul supporters listened to me when I recommended it, and we had great success. We start up agin next March when the Market comes again.

That's where I'll be should Rotara want to come and do a shift and help out.

That is a strange interpretation of that post. I did a trace and I don't see Indie's posts I answered in it, but I do know you can see I like Indie in how I talked to him in that post you cite.

It is very true I do not like racism even in the least. But I know for a fact I was never into using racism as a charge to go after people for not supporting or liking Barack Obama.

I spoke about racism as racism in that post, just like I always do. If I had been a flamer like say a Yukon, I would of taken the Cain candidacy as an excuse to rub some who I saw who liked him who I have seen express racist opinion in the past.

But that would of been beneath contempt to do.

You know as well as I do I tend to keep my opinions that might cause a hissy fit like this one Rotara felt he had to start tonight. I make it a habit to respect everyone's space -- except for one guy in here whom I definitely do not like the racist crap from.

Rotara notices this and made his move assuming my wanting to not disrupt forum flow as weakness on my part. But as a Special Forces troop trained to be tolerance and resonate with locals, blending here, helping where I can, not making a fuss where I disagree comes naturally. And much of that is because of my training.

I was also trained to be a wolf, not a sheep like most civilians. People who pass the SFCQ tend to be type A personalities anyway. He wanted to rub my nose in my vote for his prurient self amusement.

Well he can go fuck himself. I gave him a time and place I most definitely will be at. If he ever wants to talk about our differences in person. That is real to me, going at it in real time. Barking in forum is just shadow boxing when it involves conflict like this in this thread. It does not elevate my pulse in the slightest.

I am proud of my experiences in life, and I could of gone farther in the military had I wanted to. But I did not respect GHW Bush as my commander in Chief, and I would of felt the same way about William Jefferson Clinton. I have made good decisions I am grateful for, and I am grateful for my mistakes because I always learn from them.

But I never let someone like Rotara try to make me his bitch over them. On that note he was engaged in a fool's errand; which is his problem, not mine.

My first A Team liked my liberalism. It gave our small detachment a man with a useful different perspective on things to share that actually helps size up a situation when you are in a small group off by yourselves accomplishing a mission.

I hope IndieTX comes back some day, I worry about him and I like and respect him an awful lot. And you do not have a valid point here hat I was trying to say the only reason he did not like Obama was because of a racist POV.

In any event, keep trying. maybe you'll actually learn something by mining my posts. ;-)
