Surveillance video showed the horrific attack Saturday on a 73-year-old who was doused in lighter fluid and burned alive. A man surrendering to police says she owed him $2,000.

NEW YORK— — As Deloris Gillespie went up the elevator to her fifth-floor Brooklyn apartment, her killer was waiting.

Surveillance video from inside the small elevator shows that he looked something like an exterminator, with a canister sprayer, white gloves and a dust mask perched atop his head like a pair of sunglasses. The sprayer was full of flammable liquid.

When the elevator opened Saturday afternoon, the man sprayed the 73-year-old woman, who crouched to the floor to try to protect herself, New York Police Department spokesman Paul Browne said. The attacker sprayed Gillespie in the face and continued to spray her "sort of methodically" over her head and parts of her body as her bags of groceries draped off her arms, Browne said.

Then, Browne said, the attacker pulled out a barbecue-style lighter and ignited a rag in a bottle. He waited a few seconds, then backed out of the elevator and tossed in the flaming bottle.

Neighbors in the Prospect Height building quickly reported a fire, but had no idea that a person was burning alive.

Overnight, a 47-year-old man stinking of gasoline went into a police station and implicated himself in Gillespie's death, Browne said. The suspect, Jerome Isaac, told police he set her on fire because she owed him $2,000 for some work he had done for her, Browne said.

Jaime Holguin, who lives on the same floor as Gillespie, saw surveillance pictures of the attacker and said, "Oh, my God!"

Holguin, manager of news development for the Associated Press, said the attacker looked like a man who lived with Gillespie for about six months last year and appeared to have been helping her out.

That arrangement apparently ended by early 2011, but months later Holguin started seeing the man nearby on the street, looking "a lot more disheveled."

Browne said that after setting Gillespie ablaze, Isaac set another fire at his own apartment building nearby, then hid on a roof before turning himself in to police.

Isaac was arrested Sunday on murder and arson charges.

Somebody ought to tell the truth about the Bible. The preachers dare not, because they would be driven from their pulpits. Professors in colleges dare not, because they would lose their salaries. Politicians dare not. They would be defeated. Editors dare not. They would lose subscribers. Merchants dare not, because they might lose customers. Men of fashion dare not, fearing that they would lose caste. Even clerks dare not, because they might be discharged. And so I thought I would do it myself... Robert Ingersoll

In these desperate times for many it's one way to turn $2,000 into a quarter of half million which it will cost to accommodate and feed him for five or ten years, assuming he doesn't get the chair.

New York has no death penalty.

Nigger.

Colin Ferguson legally purchased a firearm in CA (which has a death penalty) then he moved to NY to shoot up and mass murder whites on The Long Island Rail Road.

He's a hero among his fellow black inmates in Attica.

It would appear that this perp has no fear of prison and there's no death penalty in NY. He may have been looking for 3 hots and a bed for the next 8 years, which is the average time served for murder these days.

According to the article I read, 'Gillespie, who was described by her son as "the mother of the community" and by a neighbor as a "community activist," had hired Isaac to help clean out her apartment but fired him when she discovered he was stealing.

The story that precipitated this horrible event, however, goes back a ways, to Gillespie, who had a reputation for helping people out, giving Isaac work helping to clean out her apartment, and according to some reports, allowing him to stay with her and giving him a key to come and go. When she caught him stealing, she fired him. He then started posting bills on her door. A neighbor mentioned that at one point she sealed her door with duct tape before leaving -- perhaps related to concern over Isaac. The Post reports that relatives say Isaac had begun "a campaign of terror against Gillespie" -- "harassing her, chasing her down the street and cursing at her," and lurking outside her apartment.

So, the perp demanded $2,000 for cleaning up some trash, and that's presumably after deducting the value of the things he stole from the victim as well as the roof she provided him.

He must have been one in demand and high priced clean up man.

Moral of story: never hire niggers.

The only time I ever gigged in Dayton OH was Christmas of '76. After New Year's Eve we were packing up around 2:30 AM in freezing ass weather when "a perthun of African descent" walked up and asked if he could help us load up so that he could earn (a daring novelty for him no doubt) some kwik kash. Well, we still had heavy speakers and cases inside (in fact nearly everything) so, he was hired.

He went inside and picked up a small box with a few drum sticks and miscellaneous odds and ends which he carried out. He carried it back inside and out again and after his third trip I asked him if he was risking injury after lugging that load back and forth for 3 trips.

Needless to say, there was no shaming him and he stood firmly on the rules of panhandling. He fully expected money because after all, nigra panhandling involves no quid pro quo and he was just politely passing the time until the work was done to receive his entitlement. I suggested that we pay him in pocket change to get rid of him so we wouldn't have to watch him while loading up. And, despite the cold at no time was he left outside alone with our gear.

On our night off we also drove the 50 miles or so to The Beverly Hills Supper Club to hear a band that was getting some attention because of their fifties act. (Sha Na Na was riding the crest of that nostalgia on TV later that year. Between "Tossin' And Turnin'" by Bobby Lewis and "SHAKE YOUR BOOTY" by KC and the Sunshine Band *ralph* it was such a bad time to be a pro that I turned to hard liquor and cigarettes and I barely had enough money for drugs)

Our drummer, the bandleader and founder liked that '50s stuff so Wifey-2-bee and I accepted his invitation to go with him and his 1/2 Chinese squeeze to see The Doo Wops, or whoever they were at the fancy showroom nightclub. A night club with no sprinkler or fire suppression equipment at all it turned out)

Five months later 165 persons died and over 200 were injured as a result of the fire that destroyed the place.
