You've seen skilful edits of video content to make fake movie trailers before, starting with the warm family-drama version of The Shining and extending recently to the horror take on Modern Family. But the version that just arrived over the weekend of The Dark Knight Rises - taking the audio from that upcoming Batman film's much-viewed trailer and putting it atop clips from The Lion King - might be a whole other level of accomplishment.
Los Angeles editor/director Brad Hansen carefully establishes the similarities not only of the two vengeful orphans Bruce Wayne and Simba, and the scorched-earth agendas of their nemeses Bane and Scar, but also the parallels in the details, like pairing up the characters played by famous British actors with instantly familiar voices: Michael Caine and Lion King's Rowan Atkinson.
It's said in Hollywood that there are only seven basic plots; no surprise, then, that the Bat and Lion could find so much in common. Note to DC Comics and Disney: a crossover comic actually uniting both leads would be an instant hot seller, no?
