...and starts making passes at me, which would have been okay except i had fifty pounds of food in my backpack and another twenty pounds dangling off the handlebars... and then i had to complicate things by kicking at the dog...

i cant see for shit, depth perception gone, coordination going, so i fall off my bike, thinking, "fuck, i hope i didnt smash the bread."... a lady across the street starts yelling, "are you okay, are you okay?!?"

a small patch of honda rash and a sprained wrist.

the dogs here in the shire seem to be nervous today, maybe the weather, cold, threatening snow, has made them more alert... maybe their masters are nervous and that got to the dogs...

anyhow, there's a mile of gentle uphill on the main leg to the store, so i go slow on the way out, and the dogs never bark except today they barked me most of the way up the hill... and then, on the way back, this doofus shit attacks me, and doofus me starts kicking back... i know better than that.

but i'm getting doddery... me, the master of swift, accurate motions, not a motion wasted... doddery, fumbling, fiddling, twitching.

it's a crime, i tell you, it's a cryin shame.

I now have aches and pains in places where I didn't used to have places. At least my back mostly straightened out. Can't say the same for the shoulder though.

"Are you okay?" As if those three words will make it all better. "Hell no, lady! I just fell off my bike!"

those three words will make it all better.

she was a nice lady... she chased the dog away, held my bike up while i put my backpack on, pointed out a hole in one of the sacks, offered to get me another one...

i'm going, "yeah, i'm fine." and "mad"... and "thanks, but i got extra sacks."

i get off down the road, and the coffee starts falling out of the hole in the sack, so i stop, pick up one jar and put it on top of the bread... then the other jar of coffee falls out, and i stop and put that on top of the bread.

i'm going again, everything under control, and the lady shows up in an SUV and hands me a new bag.

out of synch, everything... crosswise to the universe, but now that i've been typing a while, my wrist is limbering up, and i've been thinking it's gonna be interesting to watch the honda rash, to see if it heals up as fast as it used to.

but she was a nice lady.

That reminds me of a time when I was a kid exploring country roads. One time I attracted the attention of a farmer's German Shepherd that just had to see what was chase worthy on the bike zooming down his dirt road.

I remember that dog coming on hot and heavy, just about snapping at my heels. As I skidded to a stop, I could see that he was a breed Shepherd, just growed out and in his prime. I'd done a side slip with my bike and had the bike between me and the dog. Man did he have a set of teeth, and he was barking full out. I thought for sure he was going to jump me, so I emptied my lungs with all the venom and bad words I'ed learned in eleven years of living. I screamed every damned thing I could think of at that dog, and he finally laid his ears down and backed off. I believe he musta thought that I was out of my mind. That Shepherd went off in one direction, and I went off in the other.

Hopefully there wasn't any smoke. ;-)

stuff like this happens to me when i've gone off on the wrong track, and on some level, i know it's the wrong track...

in this instance, three or four days ago i'd been practicing a lot, learning a lot, singing as well as i could, but i bought a 12-pack of beer instead of recording... and that's two days shot in drinking and recovering, then another three or four days getting back to where you were before you started drinking.

mind you, i'm not saying that the music is of any significance to anyone but me, but in situations like this, i seem to be the person that counts.

i've been through this routine too many times, and i never learn.

i think i'm operating under the theory that you've got to have bad days once in a while, even if they're self-inflicted, to appreciate the good days.

dont know

i try playing the guitar, but it doesnt sound right, and my wrist isnt quite as limber as i thought.

it's not a matter of tuning the guitar, it's a matter of being out of tune with the universe.

so, having another excuse not to play, i go for beer... it's a chain hardware store that lures people into paying high prices for cheap chinese stuff by selling beer and wine at cost.

for instance, my new hat, a replacement for the black watchcap that disappeared itself...

the new hat is a laplanderish looking thing, embroidered, vaguely feminine, but it was the warmest thing they had and it cost maybe $15... i could have gone to walmart and got a watchcap for $5, but walmart is three miles away, and there are two steep overpasses... so on a beer run, i paid the money for the hat.

and the dark glasses... if i go out in daylight without dark glasses, i cant see anything for an hour after i get home, so on a beer run, i paid $15 for a pair of not-so-cheap sunglasses... wrap-around things that come out of a B- movie... probably cost 15 cents to manufacture.

i havent worked up enough courage to look at myself while i'm wearing this ensemble, hat and glasses.

i ask the girl at the counter if mormons go to church all day, because i'd just done my shortcut through the mormon church paking lot, and it was full at 3:30 in the afternoon... this girl, a diesel burner who can be surly, brightens and says, "well, i'm a mormon" and explains what mormons are supposed to do on sunday when they're not working in beer stores disguised as hardware stores.

church services make me high, no matter what kind of church... and i guess that's what they're supposed to do, and it's no wonder they can do it, because they've been perfecting their ritual and procedures forever.

no matter how high you get from church, you're gonna get high-centered on reality pretty quick.

i dont trust mormons any more than i trust muslim fanatics... the problem being, right now, after our heroic efforts in afghanistan, iraq, libya and a dozen other places, the muslim fanatics are probably closer to being right than the mormons are.
