Ron Paul has a tremendous support base in the oft-overlooked but important state of Idaho, Ron Paul 2012 National Campaign Chairman Jesse Benton said in a campaign press release. This straw poll win is a positive early indicator that as we focus even more on Pacific Northwest contests, Idaho will stand out as one of the states where Ron Paul has a competitive edge over his establishment competitors, Mr. Benton added. Mr. Paul defeated his competitors by a significant margin in the Idaho GOP straw poll Friday night. Mr. Paul garnered 173 out of 399 votes cast in the Idaho GOP straw poll. Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney garnered 135 votes and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich pulled in 47 votes. The Idaho Republican Party congratulates Congressman Ron Paul on his straw poll victory tonight, said Chairman Norm Semanko, according to kivitv.com.
