Ron Paul reacts to Idaho GOP straw poll victory: ‘A positive early indicator’

The State Column | Staff | Sunday, January 08, 2012

Congressman Ron Paul (R-TX), a candidate for the Republican presidential nomination, reacted to his victory in the Idaho GOP straw poll Saturday. “Ron Paul has a tremendous support base in the oft-overlooked but important state of Idaho,” Ron Paul 2012 National Campaign Chairman Jesse Benton said in a campaign press release.

“This straw poll win is a positive early indicator that as we focus even more on Pacific Northwest contests, Idaho will stand out as one of the states where Ron Paul has a competitive edge over his establishment competitors,” Mr. Benton added.

Mr. Paul defeated his competitors by a significant margin in the Idaho GOP straw poll Friday night. Mr. Paul garnered 173 out of 399 votes cast in the Idaho GOP straw poll. Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney garnered 135 votes and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich pulled in 47 votes.

“The Idaho Republican Party congratulates Congressman Ron Paul on his straw poll victory tonight,” said Chairman Norm Semanko, according to kivitv.com.

“It was a packed house tonight, the energy was contagious, and the Idaho Republican Party is looking forward to making Barack Obama a one-term President!,” Mr. Semanko posited.

Mr. Paul’s supporters reacted positively to the Texas congressman’s victory in the Idaho GOP straw poll. “It feels so good,” said Chris MacCloud of Meridian, reports the Idaho Statesman. “Just a lot of hard work, time and energy,” Mr. MacCloud professed.

The Idaho GOP straw poll was conducted at the Riverside Hotel, which is located in Boise, Idaho. Voters paid $30 to participate in the Idaho GOP straw poll.
