Many in the GOP realize that Ron Paul is not going to fade away once the early primaries are over. If Ron Paul doesn't win the primary battle, they'll need his voters to win in the general election.

Ron Paul did pretty well in the New Hampshire primary Tuesday. He placed second, slightly outperforming pre-election polls, and – perhaps more importantly – he tripled the number of votes he got in the Granite State when he ran for president in 2008. More and more, many in the GOP are realizing that this time around Ron Paul is a significant phenomenon that’s not going to fade away once the early primaries are over

Back in 2008, when Paul didn't get the Repub nomination he then ran on the Libertarian ticket and a good many of his Republican supporters voted for him instead of McCain. This time around, if he again runs on a third party against the regular Republican nominee, his supporters - since he was the second biggest vote-getter - will probably siphon off enough votes from the Republican to throw the election to Obama.

The difficulty is that most Paul supporters won't vote for another Republican, especially if Ron Paul runs on a third party, and most other Republican voters won't vote for Ron Paul. This is such a sharp divide that the GOP's best hope is that Ron Paul does not opt for a third party run.

BS! Ron didn't run on the Libertarian ticket in 2008. He did in 1988 (I voted for him). And it is very doubtful that any true Ron Paul supporter voted for McCain--the establishment always gives the sheeple a choice between Tweedledumb and Tweedledumber and those of us who support Ron are on to their scam, some of us have been for a long time.
