COMMENTARY | Ron Paul finished a strong second to longstanding front-runner Mitt Romney in Tuesday's New Hampshire Republican primary. But not all of the 23 percent of primary voters who supported Paul expect him to win the GOP nomination. Romney cemented his front-runner status with a commanding 39 percent of the vote, and his nomination, though not yet certain, now appears likely. But Ron Paul might still win. Here's how. Paul's second-place finish in New Hampshire, combined with his strong third-place showing in the Iowa caucus, establishes him as the Republican candidate offering the sharpest contrast to Romney. New Hampshire State Senator Jim Forsythe confirmed this Tuesday, saying "Dr. Paul is clearly emerging as the alternative to Gov. Romney (and) the alternative to the status quo." It's the second part of Sen. Forsythe's comment that caught my ear. Paul is more than just the Republicans' runner-up; he's their best alternative to the status quo. And for those of us who think the status quo is irreparably flawed, that makes Paul the primary's only real winner. Paul and his staff have not yet giving up on winning the GOP nomination. Paul himself told supporters of front-runner Romney, "We're nibbling at his heels." He also claimed his New Hampshire performance consolidated the nomination contest into a two-man race. Still, most experts consider a Paul nomination a long shot. But that doesn't mean Paul isn't winning anyway. Paul also responded to criticism that his campaign and stances on the issues are dangerous. "I sort of chuckle," Paul told his supporters of the criticism, "because we are dangerous to the status quo." Therein lies the lasting value of a vote for Paul. Paul's political platform may play best in independent-minded states such as Iowa and New Hampshire, but his politics are capturing the hopes of frustrated lifelong Republicans and young people new to political engagement. Paul's supporters greet him with chants of "End the Fed, end the Fed," and Paul's unconventionally liberal positions on social issues appeal to many young fiscally conservative voters. So when Paul told his supporters that there is "no way they are going to stop the momentum we have started," perhaps what he really means is not momentum toward the nomination, but rather what Paul calls "the cause of liberty." In other words, a vote for Paul is a vote for a totally unique brand of politics, one that surely threatens politics as usual. Paul's strong New Hampshire showing might not position him for a third-party run, but it does reposition expectations for evolving intra-party political dynamics and party demographics. To the extent Paul represents the Republicanism of the future, a vote for Paul is a vote for new solutions via new ideas. Even assuming he loses, a vote for Paul is at least one I, and many other Republicans, can cast with patriotism and pride. To think the freest people that have ever existed on earth have been reduced to accepting the crumbs of liberty that remain to be groveled for. Sure, Ron Paul does stand for freedom. He's against the perpetual war STATE and promotes sound money. I applaud his efforts. Yet, he's just one of 535 FEDERAL agents pretending to dictate "policy" (where we get the word police) from a foreign enclave that has driven true freedom from our midst, supplanting it with a big brother police state. CONgress has suffered the same damage as has the rest of the country having their role reduced to clapping like trained seals at the STATE of the UNION (joke) address where the PREZ stands between two fascis and sells the fascism his handlers demand to those still deluded enough to believe the lies. The most recent attack upon freedom was signed into "law" on December 31, 2011, by Barak Obama / Barry Soetero the least vetted President to have ever slithered into the Oval Office. The legalization of a standing army on our streets with authority to incarcerate "indefinitely" our fellow Americans without due process of law or access to remedy. Is this really law ? If this fake government said the law was that every family in America had to eliminate one of its members for population control as a matter of national security, who would you shoot first ? I see so many in the Christian community that lean upon Romans 13 as their crutch to hide their shame and cowardice while children all around the world are sacrificed upon the warmonger's altar of power, greed and an insatiable appetite for raw murder. These fairytale Christians ignore the many other scriptures that are repeated throughout their Holy Book. How about Moses telling the Pharoah to pound sand ? How about Nehemiah that gathered a mob to tell the usurers and tax collecting power grubbing elites of his day to piss of ? How about the Hebrew mid-wives that were ordered to kill the new born males yet they refused ? I might agree that the propaganda is overwhelming and that the average person's life is so occupied with making ends meet (or satisfying their materialistic IPOD - IPhone lifestyle) that they have little time to contemplate the realities that are stealing their very souls as they continue to contribute, condone and finance a corrupt cabal of international thugs and those willing to join them that continue to destroy our country as we helplessly sit by as gelded witnesses. God, help us we're so very lost. It's only a matter of time before things deteriorate beyond the point of no return if this isn't already the case. Ron Paul, like John the Baptist, is shouting in the wilderness of the blind, deaf and "dumb" having his voice muffled by the commie-fascists that are completely owned and operated by the banking/corporate cabal of shit eating, baby killing, blood drinking, paedophile thuggery, AKA ELITES, that cross-dress as Ameri-CONS. Come on, America, get off of your knees. Ron Paul is not enough, he's just one 76 year old man that spreads false hope to those that know something's wrong but aren't aware of just how firmly the evil is embedded in D.C. or incapable of really resisting the FEDERAL RESERVE BANK GOVT abomination.
