MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) SC Senator Tom Davis has announced his endorsement of Ron Paul, a candidate he feels can beat Barack Obama while staying true to Republican Party principles.

During a press conference in Myrtle Beach Sunday night, Davis announced his endorsement of candidate Ron Paul, saying Dr. Paul has fought a lonely battle in Washington against crony capitalism. SLIDESHOW

Davis commented that his endorsement is about the ideals that Ron Paul stands for.

Taking to the podium after receiving his endorsement, Paul told the crowd that showed up at the Pallisades Ballroom in Myrtle Beach Sunday that, "We will do well next Saturday."

Paul added that current administration is bad, but bad ideas have been happening for the past thirty years.

Paul said he'd like to cut the budget $1,000,000,000,000 in his first year in office, and bring the troops home. He added we shouldn't go to war unless Congress declares it, and the United States should stop being world police. There's no reason we should go into Iran, Paul said.

Paul said he wants a stronger national defense, and mentions of the National Defense Authorization Act, signed into law by President Obama on Dec. 31, 2011, brought boos from the crowd.

Paul later added that our rights come from our Creator, not our government.

WMBF News Reporter Will Whitson is at the press conference and will bring more details as they become available.

Rick Santorum said, “To get an endorsement from someone like Tom Davis is a big deal. It would speak volumes to folks and make them take notice and give us a look.”

I wonder if Rick wept when he heard the news of the Davis endorsement.....

I sure hope so, but probably not because psychopaths don't cry much ;)

STATEMENT FOR RON PAUL/ TOM DAVIS RELEASE:

“It’s easy to campaign on lower taxes, less spending and fewer regulations – it’s another thing entirely to stand up for these limited government principles when the entire Washington establishment is aligned against you. Yet for more than three decades Ron Paul has cast thousands of lonely votes in our nation’s capital based on the constitutional principles that this country was founded on – and that the Republican Party has promised to protect. Yet while generations of politicians – including far too many Republicans – were losing their way or caving to the status quo, Ron Paul was standing as a Tea Party of one against a towering wave of red ink.”

“2012 marks the fifth consecutive year in which the federal government is going to spend well over $1 trillion in money it doesn’t have. Each and every American taxpayer is now on the hook for $135,000 worth of federal debt – and last year’s debt deal adds another $7 trillion in deficit spending over the coming decade. Meanwhile the U.S. Senate hasn’t passed a budget in nearly 1,000 days.”

“I’m endorsing Ron Paul because enough is enough. Despite this wave of unprecedented government spending, our unemployment rate has remained above 8 percent for the last 34 months and 146.4 million Americans – one out of every two people in this country – are now classified as poor or low-income.”

“Government activism and government intervention clearly hasn’t fixed our economy – which is why the Republican Party needs a nominee who isn’t wedded to that failed approach. We won’t chart a path to fiscal solvency or victory in November by running toward the failed ideas of the left – we will achieve those victories by returning to the principles that the Republican Party once stood for.”

“That is why I am proud to endorse Ron Paul for president.”

“Ron Paul’s record matches his rhetoric, his fiscal plan matches the fiscal challenges that our nation is facing and his movement represents the taxpayers whose interests have been ignored in the political process for far too long.”

“I’m also endorsing him because unlike what the pundits have led you to believe, he is the candidate who gives the Republican Party the best chance to beat Barack Obama in November.”

“We have a choice: We can keep electing c candidates who talk about change only during political campaigns as a way to get elected, or we can finally elect a candidate who will walk the walk and make that change a reality – restoring our bottom line, our individual liberties and our national pride in the process.”

I'm pretty pleased with how Ron Paul has been doing everything this campaign. He's making a real good show. No, the voting R's are not swarming to him in overwhelming majorities, or even majorities, but he's making a big splash. The exit polls have consistently shown that he is getting about 50% of the younger people. It's the older folks who are voting for the status quo politicians, and every 4 years they are moving out and the younger people who know Ron Paul are moving in.

If Ron Paul does not win the presidency, the ground will be very ripe for Rand to step up to the place 4-8 years from now. Of course the country has to last that long, but I think the bulk of it will, at least.

A lot of us here were not pleased with him the last go-round, and I'm glad it seems there's a lot more unity this time.

He is the tea party state senator elected in South Carolina where the next primary will be held for the nomination. This endorsement, coupled with DeMint's fond comments should prove very helpful in South Carolina next week. : )

Senator Tom Davis From South Carolina Endorses Ron Paul

From the Comments section:

"It is no coincidence Jon Huntsman dropped out and endorsed Romney 3 hours after Tom Davis, probably the most influential conservative senator in South Carolina, ensored Ron Paul.

[sic]

Thank god there is a debate tomorrow or else the media would spend the week talking about Huntsmans endorsement and not Tom Davis' I hope Paul mention this in a debate."

That was a great answer I thought. He's probably right. Chimp was the last best puppet and probably the last one to know what happened in that WH.

You're welcome. :) I haven't watched all of this 23.5 min. YT video yet but am linking it here for the record: Ron Paul Speech 1/15/12 After Endorsement from Senator Tom Davis

Uploaded by Siriuscaster on Jan 15, 2012

2012 Republican Presidential candidate Ron Paul received today the key endorsement of tea party favorite and South Carolina political heavyweight, state Sen. Tom Davis (R-Beaufort). The consequential endorsement took place at a press conference at 6:00 p.m. EST at the Palisades Conference Center, located in Myrtle Beach. Sen. Davis is the most influential fiscal conservative in the South Carolina General Assembly and his endorsement virtually assures that fiscal conservatives in the "First in the South" primary state will take notice. His endorsement also is viewed as a political game-changer by many in South Carolina Republican Party circles.
