Her argument is that those responsible for passing the National Defense Authorization Act will inevitably end up its victims. She states, "Parliamentary leaders are the first to face pressure, threats, arrest and even violence when the military obtains to [sic] power to make civilian arrests and hold civilians in military facilities without due process. There is no exception to this rule." The problem with her rationale is not that it isn't correct. It's that it fails to recognize that a fascist coup has already taken place in this country. The catalyst was the false-flag event of Sept. 11, 2001, and was solidified by the enactment of the PATRIOT Act. It was quickly followed by the massive purging of all individuals not pledging allegiance to the rabid, neocon, ideologies of Dick Cheney and George W. Bush. The Bush administration had 8 years to systematically rid the Dept. of Justice and its umbrella agencies of all political dissenters. With each successive appointment within the military, law enforcement and the courts, any hint of "liberalism" was quashed. This trend not only took hold on a national level, but state and local political appointee positions were purged of all progressives as well. Anyone unable to recognize today's Congress as one which is overwhelmingly comprised of right wing ideologues on both sides of the political aisle, has not been paying attention. My question to Ms. Wolf would be, "Why would you need to arrest those already doing your bidding for you?" Aside from the fact that Congressional members are already exuberant participants in furthering the fascist paradigm, there is another powerful element completely overlooked by Ms. Wolf -- wealth. The combined personal assets of individuals serving in the Senate, alone, totals well over a billion dollars. It takes a bit of time, but by Googling each Congressional member's name you can usually find an estimate of their wealth. Former Speaker of the House and current Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi's net worth is estimated at approximately $132 million -- and she's only the 12th richest person in Congress. John McCain was worth well over $50 million in 2006 and those figures have undoubtedly increased significantly. John Kerry is worth an estimated $750 million. And so it goes.... Why bring our Congressional Representatives' wealth into it? Because wealth buys power, protection and insulation. There will be no jackboots at the doors of those possessing such levels of obscene riches; because as we all know, they make the rules the rest of us are forced to follow, but for which they have full exemption. There are exceptions, of course. A few brave souls still exist with the guts to stand against the fascist wave enveloping them. These individuals are in danger of arrest, indefinite detention and quite possibly losing their very lives. Perhaps those responsible for making such decisions will find it more politically expedient to make sure these members of Congress never reach the zenith of becoming a very public, messy liability for those trying to shut them up. It would be much more tidy to enlist CIA ops to inject them under a toenail to make their deaths look like natural occurrences. A lovely heart attack courtesy of digitalis, and who in the public arena would question it? My warning to the near extinct, sliver of true progressives remaining in Congress is this: be ever vigilant and watch your back, because you are working amid a viper's nest of America's most brazen enemies. The relationship between morality and liberty is a directly proportional one. "If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your counsel nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen. Samuel Adams
