well, it was way out in the sticks, and the high school queen was a rich plumber's daughter who hobnobbed with the most famous local garage band.

sometimes they'd practice at the plumber's, or maybe they were hired for a party....they'd crank up their amps, and on a warm summer night the guitars and bass drifted half a mile through the pines to us... it's probably a mercy that we couldnt hear the vocals, if there were any.

...but with a little imagination, those guys were as good as these guys.

billy thompson was the ringleader of the band... he was a winsome little guy, who, when we were younger, pitched for the grade school baseball team.

he wore black patent leather shoes to pitch in... but a game was an occasion, wasnt it?
