The relationship between morality and liberty is a directly proportional one.

"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your counsel nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.”

I thought the reason they had tasers was so that they didn't have to use deadly force unless absolutely necessary. I guess tasers are just reserved for unarmed women and kids in handcuffs who don't jump high enough when told to jump.

Fucking moron brought a club to a gunfight. When a cop is pointing his gun at you it's time to give it up and fight through the judicial system and seek justice there. Pedro chose suicide by cop....

Extra...Extra..Read all about it: Monterey Park Police officers received a call around 9:30 a.m. that a male Hispanic adult was shattering windows with a metal bar at the fast food restaurant, located directly across the street from East Los Angeles College and adjacent to several bustling shopping centers....Witnesses said officers demanded the man to get down on the ground before tasing him and eventually shooting him after the suspect lunged at them with the bar.

with a great story now how he took down that bad, bad, dangerous man - gee, no one thought to let the dog after him? mace? taser?

- on a bright note, I'm kinda happy to see how they are being trained to empty their weapons so quickly, and so accurately /s

You're right of course.

The dog is trained to bite and hold on and it could have easily been killed with the weapon, and a TASER has about 15 of wire supplying the electrodes. If one or both of the barbs failed to penetrate the man's clothes (which happens more than the cops like to admit) the subject could have been close enough in one leap to crack a cop's skull like a watermelon. The cop held the dog's leash in one hand and if he had a TASER that failed in the other he could have been crippled or dead before he could remedy the mistake of choosing the wrong weapon in a close encounter with a deadly blunt instrument.

Under those circs the subject asked for it, and he got it. (acting the bad ass for bystanders was the last foolish mistake he'll ever make) The cop who fired was right to try and keep a healthy 20 feet away from man wielding that weapon, and the cop behind the threat appeared to be about one big step away from being a veggie or dead when the cop opened fire.

This video reaffirms what I've posted before-the use of force-even when justifiable-is never pretty. Even though I have a gut feeling that the man was bluffing I'd have probably shot him, too.

After watching the video a few more times, I noticed that the first cop IS holding a Taser and fires it at the dude at about 0:39 into the video. The guy simply pulls the dart out his face, then yeah, he goes to swing that thing at the cop who tazed him.

The only thing the 2nd cop did wrong, besides holding his weapon cocked to the side like a gangster prior to opening fire, was to empty his weapon into the guy. Three or four shots should have been sufficient, and he should not have kept firing while the guy was laying on the ground.

The cops probably assumed that the perp was on something like PCP (and he probably was) after all the other preliminary and very erratic dancing around the parking lot by the mestizo. In that case, they shoot until the perp quits moving. A person on PCP can keep going and take another person out of this world with them even with a shot out heart, and cops ain't martyrs.

We used to swing heavy objects back at the psychos, and inevitably they'd need a trip to the ER for stitches. I'm guessing what I did way back when would today land me in trouble today, while this shooting will probably go down as justified. Insanity is the end result of liberalism gone unchecked.

I don't want to seem argumentative but the rule is, "Keep shooting until the subject goes down." Ammo is cheap and there's no polite way to shoot someone. And if the cop (or even you or I) fail to stop an armed perp then the cop's (or our) legacy could be to end up as part of a training course on "what not to do." For instance, suppose you're facing three perps armed with guns. How would you handle the problem? (Answer: Put a pill in each of them ASAP and then go back and address their individual needs based on which if any are still standing or jockeying for a chance to kill you) Surely in that scenario you can understand why economizing on ammo could get you killed, right?

25 years ago I read one of the best books on the subject. It was entitled, STREET SURVIVAL: TACTICS FOR ARMED ENCOUNTERS by PALADIN PRESS. It has lots of pix of dead cops, and they didn't end up in the book because of newer, more clever perps. Cops die from making the same mistakes again and again. This book is an advanced course that goes far beyond basic police academy training.

And, your conclusion that "Three or four shots should have been sufficient" is also a common misconception by people who've never had to stop a dangerous person in their tracks. If the rounds don't hit the CNS (spine or brain) then a mortally wounded perp can live long enough to kill everyone in the place. (In the courses I've taken this would be considered a failure of the training objective) And, don't assume that any weapon other than a firearm is a negligible threat. Even one inch of razor sharp steel can end or change many lives in a matter of seconds, and a blunt instrument can leave victims in playpens waiting for their next diaper changes for the rest of their lives. (file this under "THINGS WORSE THAN DYING-being a burden on your family")

The aforementioned book cites the case of an armed liquor store robbery suspect who soaked up 39 rounds of 9mm ammo in the head, neck and chest before his blood finally leaked out and he stopped hopping around inside the store. So, the rule (which is the result of cold statistical actuaries) is, "the longer it takes to neutralize an armed threat the greater the odds that a cop or armed citizen won't make it home to his/her family that night." The name of the game is to STOP the threat, and killing him or her is incidental to that. And giving the sucker an even break ("I fired only 3 shots-it seemed like the polite thing to do") is not part of the real world where survival is the objective.

The rule applies to civilians and cops alike: "Shoot for center of mass where your rounds will be most effective and keep shooting until the subject goes down." (This may seem counter intuitive but brain shots on moving targets are really easy on TV and film and really hard in real life) If deadly force is justified then any concern about offending the sensibilities of bystanders with camera phones could get you or other innocents killed.

LAPD learned much of the info the hard way when PCP made its debut in the city. After a few cops were unable to stop PCP flip outs with TASERs and revolvers the high capacity auto pistols and shotguns found favor with officers, particularly those who didn't care to be bludgeoned with their own arms after they were ripped out of the sockets.

Tell me what you would do if you were confronted with a street-psycho in your driveway who exhibited all the symptoms of being "out of it" on drugs and turned on you with a lead pipe in his hands?? You'd drop him on the spot if you had a gun, otherwise the perp would turn your skull into mush. I would, I'm not sacrificing my life for a weeping-liberal sentiment that "all people are good!", I know otherwise.

That's exactly what two sheriff deputies told me back in 2009: brain shot if they're wired, because that's tripping the "switch" that shuts a person off. That's why they don't like drugs: it puts the LEO in the position of having to shoot/kill somebody just because they ingested harsh chemicals that rendered them insane. The deputy I rode along with told me that domestic disturbance calls were the #1 scariest duties, followed by wired drug addicts in a rage.

Right.

And despite testing negative for PCP Rodney King displayed the classic symptoms of under the influence. He was seemingly impervious to the TASER and the rhythm stick party on his head and body by cops with their PR-24s.

Some of those who second guessed the cops asked, "Why didn't the LAPD use the swarm technique on King?" Well, if King was on PCP and was super strong as a result the guys who grabbed his arms may have been pulled around into biting range by King, and if he was HIV-positive it could have been a death sentence for those cops.

I wouldn't have swarmed his ass either based on what I saw in the video.

Sgt. Stacey Koon probably saved King's life because CHP Officer Melanie Singer approached King with her weapon drawn when Koon ordered her back. Had she attempted to order King to the ground and he failed to comply and/or attacked her she would have probably shot him. So, what did Koon get for saving King's life? Well, he was served up by the President Of The United States and sacrificed on the altar of good race relations before the election, which numbnuts lost anyway.

That's why many departments and agencies have upgraded to the .40 cal, it has the stopping power of a .45 yet has close to the penetration ability of a 9mm. A 9mm is good for penetration but the rounds are so light they usually have minimal impact energy.

In fact, the FBI first went to 10mm after a bank robbery where they poured a hail of 9mm into the bank robber, yet the guy was able to dust off the agents before he took his dirt nap.

The 10mm has a bit too much recoil however, so they trimmed it down power wise and named it a .40 caliber.

I was very disappointed to see so many agencies rushing to adopt the 9mm. Fortunately the Delaware State Police (DESTAPO) came to their senses and dumped the nines and adopted the .357 SIG.

And yes, the .40 is a marked improvement over the 9mm. The cops seemed to be entrained with our military, which couldn't wait to dump Old Slabsides for the Beretta 92 SB. (a close investigation of NATO Generals would no doubt find kickbacks and profiteering behind that stupid mistake) In too many cases the 9mm had no more effect than stabbing a perp multiple times with a crochet needle. I'd even prefer an HK MP5/40 instead of the 9mm config.

The inadequate stopping power of the 9mm in FMJ was well known during World War One. It simply could not measure up to our 1911s in .45 ACP.

But so many cop agencies were betting that improved ammo, i.e. HP, frangible or pre fragmented projectiles would turn the gun (which many women coppettes found easier to control than big bore and magnum auto pistols) into a magic talisman. As we now know that theory was seriously flawed.

As one gun sage noted, "The 9mm is a fashionable piece. If one wishes to carry a fashionable piece, be prepared to die a fashionable death."

This tape says it all about big things wrong with our culture.

The jump to the gun was an unnessesry jump up the continuum of force. Effective non-lethal options to pacify people with a golf course exist and are used all the time.

I saw the Eugene Police shoot a mad who was obviously deranged and had been holed up in his van until getting out with a bat with rubber bullets, and as they approached his dropped butt they tazed him.

When human life is this cheap to the cops, you I and everyone else on the street are endangered by that.

this thread got me thinking about cops i knew...

the was one guy who'd take his gun drinking, and after he was half-pickled, he'd take it out and start waving it around... and ex-marine acquaintance, always a little flaky.

then the was another guy, who i knew only from the marine corps, who was quiet, well-spoken, shy who said that he intended to join the LAPD once his marine hitch was up... it seemed to be an unlikely calling for a guy like him.

so i just now googled the guy, to see if i could figure out what happened to him, and sure nough, he joined the LAPD, and he and his wife were murdered by their son.

that does not compute.

There was a wacko Hammond Indiana pig who showed a pattern of getting drunk in bars and when innocently bumped by a bar patron, he pulled his gun and threatened the guy who bumped into him.

What did the city do? They transferred him to the fire department.
