It's fast. Faster than firefox, but it seemed to be glitchy. For instance, I couldn't post youtube vids to 4 here and a few other things like that. I suspect Google is up to no good so I uninstalled it and only use firefox now and it does everything I need.

Someone in my office tried to download it and it fried the hard drive in one of my computers. Other than that, I dunno.

And is available for all major O/S's i.e., MicroSloth, Apple OSX (and soon iOS and Android), as well as Linux. Firefox is the standard installed Browser in Ubuntu.

Free 'Browser in a Box' Runs Firefox 4 with Ultra Security

Using Linux and virtualization, the BitBox browser isolates malware and keeps the user's base system safe.

Security is an oft-debated topic in the ongoing browser wars, but there's no denying that malware is a common problem for all of the leading contenders.

A new solution launched this week by German Sirrix AG, however, uses Firefox 4, Linux and virtualization to create what it calls a "browser in a box" that keeps all malware isolated and out of the user's main operating system.

Originally created at the request of the German federal government, BitBox (short for "browser in the box") runs on Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 as well as Debian Linux, Ubuntu, OpenSUSE and Gentoo, allowing users to surf the Web worry-free, Sirrix says.

Safer Than Sandboxing

BitBox's security derives from the fact that the browser runs in a virtualized environment using VirtualBox 4.04 and a hardened implementation of Debian 6 Linux. The included browser--Firefox 4--then runs in a separate virtual machine with its own operating system, keeping it completely separate from the rest of the user's system.

Unlike the simple sandboxing system of standard browsers, in other words, BitBox runs a completely separate guest operating system and keeps all browser activity isolated and away from the base operating system.

Downloads, cut-and-paste capabilities and printing are all kept secure; only a shared folder is in the base operating system, accessible through a separate user account. Uploads, meanwhile, are not enabled, nor is Internet access through the base operating system.

Perhaps best of all, each time the browser is restarted, it gets reset to a certified boot image, thereby eliminating any malware that might have gotten through in the previous session.

An Enterprise Version

For users, BitBox is designed to feel no different from any standard use of Firefox 4. The software is available for free download by individual users and requires no special expertise to install, Sirrix says. It's also available on DVD.

An extended enterprise version for centrally managed IT environments, meanwhile, offers additional features for a fee. In corporate settings, for instance, a tunnel between the BitBox browser and a central Internet gateway is transparently integrated, thereby ensuring a reliable separation between the Internet and the corporate intranet.

Client applications, then, can access only the internal corporate network, for example, while BitBox is tunneled to the outside and can access only Internet information in isolation.

A central management system, meanwhile, offers a simple way to manage security policies, configurations, certification and distribution.

I couldn't find any indication of BitBox's enterprise pricing, but have written them to find out and will post any updates. Meanwhile, if security is paramount in your business, this could be a browser to try out.

Ever notice that the Chrome Logo looks like the "Eye of Horus" i.e., the "all seeing eye"?

Not bad, but I prefer Firefox for the add-ons and the fact it comes from a non profit. Google is just too big to support.

It came out early on that they were startup funded by the CIA. They are like leeches and never let go, therefore the latest screams about the intertwining of intel "for marketing " that's news.

A computer repair geek set me up with Chrome, as being more secure than IE8 (which I think means less likely to pick up a virus or trojan). I find it a bit faster, and, with "extensions" (apps), very convenient. The two outstanding frustrations are with (1) the Bookmarks ("Favorites") - in one way - the bookmark bar - more convenient for your four or five primary favorites, but otherwise less convenient because if you scroll down the list to a file, pick out an item and click to it, when you're finished and want to move on to the next item in the same file, you have to scroll down the whole list again, each time; and (2) with the Print feature -- the built-in Chrome print feature gives you no real control over the image size or margins, you can get an extension that shifts the page to IE8-type print commands but that takes an extra minute or two and sometimes doesn't seem to work right.

If you want privacy and security go with facebook. Your privacy is their #1 concern.

Google volunteered to censor the Internet and track and store user data in China so that the Chinese government can persecute those who are politically incorrect in their viewing habits.

Google has just announced that they will be tracking and storing the surfing habits of their users here in the United States. Who is to say that users of Google Chrome won't be considered part of that user tracking and data storing? Considering the police state mentality of the two party fraud, how long will it be before Google volunteers to allow the government to access Google's stored data?

Like I said use Facebook for privacy - that way only the authorities will know all you doings.
