Colorado - the nation's trimmest state - is considering enacting the nation's strictest trans-fat ban in school food. Other states have banned trans-fat from cafeteria food, but Colorado's law would eliminate it from vending machines, bake sales and all before- and after-school activities.

Is this good public health policy, or is the government going too far?

Is is good public policy to not allow arsenic in food?

Trans-fats are no different - they are poison. It just takes a little longer than a good shot of Hemlock.

Of course the same thing could be said for the following FDA Approved items commonly found in mass produced food:

Aspartame - over 60 known adverse side effects.

GMO corn, soy, and sugar beets - linked to reproductive failure, allergic reactions, and who knows what else since no long term studies have been done.

High Fructose Corn Syrup - which feeds cancer cells, and frequently has high levels of Mercury because of the means by which it is manufactured.

Food colorings - particularly Red are toxic carcinogens but the FDA allows them in your food.

And many others.

Eliminating Trans-fats is a start and eliminating many other, ha ha, FDA Approved products is another big step to protecting your health.
