HolisticMed reports: Poster Comment: Sadly, you now have to read labels and do research on so-called USDA Phony Organic foods. This is, though, what I expected when Big Food, Big Pharma, and Monsatan lobbied for the FDA to establish an "Organic" label as they had gotten frightened of all these private non-profit Organic Labeling groups that actually had tough standards e.g., Oregon Tilth. The problem with tight impartial Organic Standards is that, well, er, uh, they can't be bought very easily as their reputation for reliability is the only thing that makes their labeling credible - they don't have a lot of guys with guns to force people to accept it, and there are still a lot of suckers who think the FDA is about food safety rather than suppressing competition to the "big boys". Competition is bad for business. Post Comment Private Reply Ignore Thread Top Page Up Full Thread Page Down Bottom/Latest Begin Trace Mode for Comment # 4.

I've been using Xylitol instead of sugar, and have been very please with the results. One source is Birch bark. It has many benefits for dental health and of course is great for diabetics.
If I am going to use a sweetener, other than pure cane sugar, I generally turn to Stevia which has no known side effects. Stevia is not as great a sweetener as some of the enthusiastic reviews suggested early on, but it is non-toxic so is an alternative. Xylitol does have some side effects, gas for one.
Thanks :)
You are most welcome.
