From Wiki Because of her connection to her stepfather, in the past, people had presumed Twain's ancestry was Ojibwa, but she stated in an interview that her biological father was part Cree. If true you'd think that she'd have taken a Cree name to honor her real father instead of an Ojibwa word as her first name. And if her bio dad was "part Cree" (which I find doubtful) does that make her an Indian? No, I believe that she may have conjured that because she liked the sound of the word "Shania" and didn't want to be criticized for just another show biz name change but with an ethnic slant, which isn't done unless their real past is hidden just as Iron Eyes Cody (Espera DeCorti) was caught lying about. "Name?" "Dances With Quail" "Are you an Indian?" "Uh, yeah, but my real name was Mortimer Snerdley." "Okay". It's too easy to be criticized for being ashamed of your European heritage unless one claims Indian blood when embracing the culture.
