The relationship between morality and liberty is a directly proportional one.

"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your counsel nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.”

I'd like to see the mark it left, bet he still feels it.

When I lived in LA I saw Richard Belzer do a live interview of Hulk Hogan and Mr. T on Belzer's short lived TV show.

When Belzer questioned the theatrical nature of pro wrestling, he heard the two musclemen quietly discussing how they were "gonna teach him a lesson". So, as a "demonstration" Mr. T put a sleeper hold on the unsuspecting Belzer and then T just dropped him on a hardwood or concrete studio floor. While Belzer was unconscious, T said, "He asleep he be alright in a minute"

When Belzer regained consciousness a few seconds later he sprung up and announced a commercial, then turned his back to the camera.

I saw the blood pouring from the back of his head.

He sued the two and settled out of court for an undisclosed sum.

Hey, I'm not a Belzer fan but what T did to him was really shitty.

People make the same mistake over and over, describing pro wrestling as "fake". The wrestlers who take offense seem to interpret that to mean that they pull their punches and blows. It's actually a very physical form of loosely choreographed theatrics and the participants (steroid monsters or "chemically created clones of destruction") are often injured physically. We can safely assume that they were brain damaged and/or emotionally scarred before turning pro.

Much of the anger and grudge talk as well as "chair slamming" and such is for visual effect to impress fans from the shallow end of the gene pool. And, in the course of soaking up serious punishment many pro wrestlers end up crippled and/or slaves to pain meds and surgeries. I suspect that the steroids allow them to shrug off pain and injuries and endure serious violence that comes back to visit them in later years.

In short, they're a bunch of stupid bastards.

I'm surprised that more don't die in the ring. Yes it's choreographed, but one slip is all it takes, and they do some stupid crazy things. I say its just a matter of time before another one dies in the ring.

I was a fan, back in the 80's. It was a different era, and focused more on feuds, the characters, etc. Now they throw a couple people in the ring and see who can do teh most dangerous moves, and no one gives a damn who "wins".

In the field TV reporters are referred to as "meat puppets." I've dealt with many a dumb one.

The wrestler who was suspended high on a cable rigging that released and dropped him?

I mean, what was that all about?

What kind of people handle rigging at those events?

I swear, there's gotta be a better way to make a living.

Mickey Rourke in The Wrestler really left me stunned.

That was Owen Hart, and from what I read, he had a premonition about doing that, that night. He was pushed into doing it.

I was watching that PPV when it happened. Nothing was shown, the screen went black and stayed black, with audio only.
