I watched that video and frankly I'm disgusted with the father. I would have just taken the computer away from the child and grounded them. I have stressed this before and I have not changed my perspective on disciplining children. Children are not a burden but a blessing. There are better ways to discipline them then by the use of force with a deadly weapon or physical punishment to the body.

I would pay my children to get chores done because I prefer to teach them the value of their personal worth. They need to learn that this country was built on the virtue of selfishness and that they do not work for free for anybody. Yes, I would designate jobs for them to do around the house to teach them a sense of duty. However, I would pay them an allowance and teach them how to invest their money into precious metals and show them how to read the stock pages. Children need parents who will guide them and parents need to listen to their children instead of the use of bullying tactics like what I have observed some parents do. I don't believe in tough love or corporal punishment at all. I believe that such methods like these become the wedge that drives children away from parents. I believe that if you command respect (not demand) from your children, then also respect them.

Whitney Houston's song "The Greatest Love of All" applies here when it comes to children. Teach them well and let them lead the way.
