I just received news that Jim was taken to the hospital several days ago for a bleeding ulcer and is not doing well. They have him on a respirator and he's not lucid. That's all I know tonight.

Great news on Jim christine, and kudos to you for being a true friend to him, and for us by proxy. I can’t wait for the YouTube song fest to begin upon his return. And a big thank you to all that wished me well with my annual kidney stone episode. I had an 8.5mm one shattered by lithotripsy last March when I was in Florida. That was three weeks of fun in a sunny doctor’s day room with a bunch of seasoned gentleman who couldn't pee.

Yesterday’s attack put me on the floor, crawling around like a baby. Effing incredible pain.

Pain and I are old friends. I like to think I can handle more than most can, but this? Ooooo Nooooo. Fork'n major OUCH. It took a 5-hour stint in the ER and two hits of IV fentanyl to clear my head. I’m not sure where the stone is now but I’m pumping water in and waiting for it to resurface like the Lock Ness monster. Tomorrow I’m off to the urologist (who received his training in Ghana) with my pockets full of precocet. If you don’t hear from me again after my visit, it’s probably because I developed a wicked case of bad karma to accompany this evil stone.

Welcome home Cyni.

Jethro, I am sorry to hear of this painful kidney stone. Holy crap that sounds painful! I'll add some prayers up for relief from this stone.

Hey, are you drinking tea? I had a friend who had a kidney stone and was told to stop drinking tea.......he did and then he never had another one.

My friend had opted for tea as a soda replacement too, but no more. It will be wonderful if omitting tea works as well for you as it did for him. : )

And please skip the diet soda too. That aspartame - well you might as well sweeten your drinks with pesticide. I still enjoy an occasional soda - sweetened with real cane sugar.

Good ones I know of:

Jones Soda

Boyalan (Their Root Beer is divine and tastes the way it used to - similar to the Old A&W.) (Big Lots is the cheapest for it when they have it in stock, and same with Jones Soda.)

Imported Mexican Coke and Sprite - Mexico does not allow the use of High Fructose Corn Death. They taste the way they used to - meaning good - in moderation.

More good news about Jim.

I stopped by the hospital last night and Jim had been sitting upright in a chair most of the afternoon and was worn out from the effort. I left after just a few minutes.

This morning he is doing much better. He slept throughout the night and looked good.

Four positive events have occurred since since yesterday morning:

1. He had a shave

2. He ate a little soft food (said it was terrible)

3. He had a BM last night (said THAT was great)

4. The NG and oxygen tubes were removed from his nose.

The monitoring electrodes are still connected and I assume those will remain at least until he is released from the ICU. He's a happy camper now that all the devices have neen removed from his nose and mouth.

The wonders of modern medicine!

i plan to go see him this afternoon. we spoke on the phone yesterday. Jim sounded real good, but he didn't remember my visit on Monday. i've printed out the thread and will take it to him. :)

he looks good and is feeling good...little to no pain...eager to get out of ICU which should happen in the next day or two...very cogent...understandably weak...he did take a stroll down the hall today.

i took him a healthful smoothie i made which he sipped and enjoyed until his nurses came in and informed me that he was on a clear liquid diet only. oops. so they took it away and refrigerated it until he gets the ok from his surgeon.

he read the print out of this thread and very much appreciated all of your concern and well wishes. he's eager to get back online with us.

oh, and i called JT while i was there so that he and Jim could share their war stories. ;)

Maybe the nurse or someone else was wrong about his diet. Am concerned about that because a smoothie should have been ok if he had already eaten soft food, as he said earlier. Good news that JT is recovering. Please come back more often, Cynicom.

It's also the day that everybody's Irish so they should all make like the Irish in the movie, Braveheart, and join the Ron Paul Revolution for Freedom. Don't forget to wear something green.

Jim's out of ICU, but here's the report from Jay tonight.

Jim had the endoscopy this morning and dodged yet another bullet. Turns out the bleeding was from a big clot in his esophagus of all things, and it was dissolved.

I went to see him at 6:00 and he is very weak but alert. He tried to speak but even leaning over close

to his face I couldn't understand him. He had just received a unit of blood when I arrived and shortly

there after his blood oxygen level dropped precipitously. The nurses immeditely injected something

into his I.V. and within seconds it returned to 100. Those people at Seton Northwest are really something

special.
