It's sobering to realize that this has been and is happening everywhere in this country to people with far less stamina or intent to control their own life. ... " That line is brought up front to keep focus on my intent, what I am trying to communicate while some shill prepares their posts for reply ... what the hell chance does a person have of breaking out of this if they are completely oblivious to it all and blaming themselves for failing, blaming themselves for not being strong enough, blaming themselves for letting the stress get to them, etc., etc.? ********************* I tried explaining to boss one time what he was asking of me. I used a simple metaphor for his little brain to look at . "This is like going to a job site and having the boss order me to dig a 6' hole that he needs by lunch time, and then ordering me to use a tablespoon to do it." For the price of one corporate manager being transferred in to rape the place and drive off old-timers, the entire facility could be upgraded with change left over, easily producing a better product at a lower cost while relieving the employees to switch from 'dealing with everything that is broke' - to actually creating and doing their job. Corporate brains just won't go there, they are 'making money' - we are re-using trash bags to save money. Typical scene played out in my reality a dozen times in past few years: " this computer is so old I can not update it anymore. It's so old that I can not see the web site you have me working on. It keeps crashing and the printer is broken too." - Now I'm 1 of 2 survivors of a department that used to keep 4 people busy 40+ hours per week. and yes, everything is still old, broken, non-up-datable Our workload has been doubled in actual tasks-needed-done-to-orders and doubled again by losing staff. We must avoid overtime and must take 20 days off without pay per year, 'To help the company" - and don't forget, "Thank God you have a job" Corporate smart person: "I'm sure if you try a little harder you'll find a way to make it work. Oh and by the way, we've just scheduled another magazine due for next month and the 29th is coming up for first time in four years, we'll need a special section built that day. You're doing a good job.' He's right, through hunger for a paycheck to feed and shelter myself, admittedly some pride in accomplishing the impossible and loyality to a few friinds, I have made things work. Others here have performed magic as well, pulling a rabbit out of a hat on an hourly basis most days, so the corp makes another buck and they get to keep job, pay bills. ************ Back in 1991 I let this chit work on me. Was a total sheep believing that you put in a good days work, let the boss learn to count on you and paychecks will keep coming. 16 hour days? no problem, 'Thank God I have a job" ~ until 3 am one morning when back broke and the slide into hell of Workmen's Comp nightmare began. Little known to me, I was 6th major injury for the first quarter. Insurance rates doubled to $250K per year for my employer and it was 'all my fault.' High powered attorneys and private investigators spent 2.5 years trying to prove I was a good-for-nothing trying to get out of work while I learned to walk again next to my youngest son. It became so rediculous that friends/family didn't even believe me anymore when I tried to share the tale. Curious Note: To anyone listening to my requests for help back then, there was never any consideration made over the fact, I was the 6th major injury in the first quarter, the corporation kept going - 6 people descended into hell. Then one day, in a small court room as some POS attorney raised more arguements, I heard a heavy slam of a gavel followed by an angry judge bellowing, "You've F**** with this man long enough." To this day, I wonder how the stenographer handled this? Thanks to the way my dad raised me, a new trade was found, thank God for computers, and my life was rebuilt. 21 years later, I've fallen into the trap again. Sitting here now waiting on a taxi and ride to e-med place with stress related situation that dropped me to floor couple times yesterday. It's near embarrassing to realize, I did it again. It's sobering to realize that this is happening everywhere in this country to people with far less stamina or intent to control their own life. >>> it's 24 hours later, what an exciting day ..... this man is now unavailable for weeks ... his humble attempts at keeping the broken chit producing are unavailable, but the corp will go on ... others will pick up slack, punt, fake it, earn their pay, the corporation survives, I am about to encur years of debt repairing the problems resulting from my choices and the wise ones can all say I did it to myself.
