An L.A. Times report which characterizes the Sovereign Citizen movement as “a major threat” on a par with Islamic extremism infers that “more than 100,00 Americans” are domestic terrorists as a result of their affiliation with the group. The article, entitled ‘Sovereign citizen’ movement now on FBI’s radar, frames the belief that “the U.S. is essentially under martial law,” along with support for reintroducing the gold standard, as political views indicative of violent extremism. The report quotes Mark Potok of the Southern Poverty Law Center, who in one fell swoop demonizes “more than 100,00 Americans” as domestic terrorists. “This is a movement that has absolutely exploded,” said Mark Potok, a senior fellow at the Southern Poverty Law Center, a nonprofit organization based in Montgomery, Ala., that tracks domestic terrorists and hate groups. More than 100,000 Americans have aligned themselves with the sovereign citizens, the center said. Potok specializes in seizing upon tragedies to push his organization’s political agenda. Immediately after the shooting of US Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, Potok took to the airwaves to blame the attempted assassination on the “radical right,” when the shooter, Jared Loughner, was described by those who knew him as a “left-wing pothead”. Potok has been described as “the Boy Who Cried Right-Wing Terrorist” because of his obsession with exploiting almost every act of violence to impugn conservatives. “The fact that he is consistently wrong about, well, just about everything — from the political views of the supposed right wingers to the supposedly violent nature of conservative groups to the mere presence of violent crime — does not seem to dissuade Old Media from using him to smear conservatives,” explains Lachlan Markay. The SPLC makes tens of millions of dollars every year demonizing politically active Americans as domestic terrorists, making it the most profitable “civil rights charity” in America, and yet the establishment media continues to treat the organization and its mouthpieces like Potok as impartial observers. Of course, any political group with such a substantial membership is bound to contain a smattering of crazies – the report claims members of the Sovereign Citizen movement have killed six police officers over the course of the last 12 years – but to demonize over 100,000 Americans as violent terrorists on a par with Al-Qaeda because they express concerns about the militarization of law enforcement is clearly asinine. Unfortunately, it’s now par for the course. Despite the fact that the federal government was forced to back down on framing Ron Paul supporters, libertarians, people who display bumper stickers, people who own gold, or even people who fly a U.S. flag, as terrorists under the infamous MIAC report, the rush to denounce legitimate political beliefs as thought crimes, or even mundane behaviors, by insinuating they are shared by terrorists, has accelerated in recent months. Under the FBI’s Communities Against Terrorism program, the bulk purchase of food is labeled as a potential indication of terrorist activity, as is using cash to pay for a cup of coffee, and showing an interest in web privacy when using the Internet in a public place. As we have documented on numerous occasions, the federal government routinely characterizes mundane behavior as extremist activity or a potential indicator of terrorist intent. The SPLC is just an extension of the ongoing and existing PsyOp control of the American Republic. The SPLC demonizes members of the liberty movement because they are a Cat's Paw for the ruling elites. They serve the function of being a putative "independent voice" against the evils of freedom. I saw this LA TIMES edition in the store today & am still tempted to buy it, because i laughed out loud when i saw the VERY PROMINENT (front page above the fold headline which reads "CONTEMPT FOR THE LAW". (pot-kettle-black). Should be amusing reading.

oh i forgot to mention. Accompanying the headline is a dramatic photo of the father of a dead cop who was shot & killed during a traffic stop of a "sovereign citizen" terrorist. The father is hugging someone in grief. This is a major propaganda campaign.

Should be amusing. The only sad point is that there are still people who grant any credibility to such as the SPLC or the LA Times.
If conservatives were even half as dangerous as the ADL and SPLC claimed people like Mark Potok would be dying on a regular basis. Yet I haven't even heard of him getting an ass whooping by any of the 100,000 he's impugned. Calling Ron Paul an isolationist is like calling your neighbor a hermit because he doesn't come over and break your window - unknown
And that number is growing larger by the day and will continue to grow larger as the government spirals out of control and increases its oppression and tyranny in order to show who's the boss. If history is any indication it's only a matter of time until the killing starts, at which time the government will overreact and commit an atrocity against a group of Americans, causing a huge up rise in resistance and even more atrocities from the government as the two party fraud struggles to maintain control of their power base. This game has been played out over and over throughout history. The good thing is that we know how it ends - the government loses, the tyrants get their just rewards, and we will either have a huge civil war over control over the government or we won't. I haven't had time to make heads or tails of it though. The story mentioned a father & son who allegedly killed 2 police last year and then were killed later: Jerry Ralph Kane Jr. and his teenaged son Joseph. Here is a NY Times article on them from May 2010.
