Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) took a break from his presidential bid to pursue one of his favorite pastimes — criticizing the Federal Reserve.

Paul returned to Capitol Hill on Wednesday to question Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke, who was appearing before the House Financial Services Committee to deliver his semiannual testimony.

The longtime central bank critic and author of End the Fed opened with a lengthy critique of the central banking system, which he maintained is a wrongheaded experiment that has fueled bubbles and bursts in the financial system.

"Nobody's smart enough to have central economic planning," he said. "Our time has come for serious discussion on monetary reform."

"The Fed's going to self-destruct eventually anyways," Paul added later.

He went on to criticize the Fed for its monetary policy, reiterating his longstanding desire for currency backed by hard assets like silver and gold. He pressed Bernanke on why existing fiat currency couldn't coexist with hard currency like silver.

"You love paper money. I believe money should be honest," he said.

Paul went so far as to hold up a silver ounce to Bernanke, explaining that that tangible item had appreciated in value to the point that what bought four gallons of gas in 2006 now could buy 11 gallons.

A bemused Bernanke listened to Paul's lengthy speech, finally responding with, "First of all, good to see you again."

He went on to say he would be willing to discuss the idea of a parallel currency with Paul in the future.

Before leaving shortly after concluding his exchange with the Fed chairman, Paul asked Bernanke if he purchased his own groceries. Bernanke said he did.

I wish I could live to see the day where Bernanke would be FORCED to "discuss the idea of a parallel currency with Paul"!

I would be better satisfied to see the SOB in prison for life.

That's a perfect solution. Then Paul could challenge his history of managing our currency through bars!!!

Sounds like a joo, but they aren't a "race", but a culture.

This would make him a victim. I agree w/Phant; force him to publicly defend his monetary policy on national TV for a few uninterrupted hours. After that, do what you want with him.

When he refused to tell Senator Levin ? where two Trillion dollars went at a congressional hearing app. one year ago ?, that alone earned him a spot in a gulag. It sure was a window into the DeeCee power structure.

Rep. Charles Lindbergh started educating Americans to the dangers of the Jews/FedRes over a hundred years ago. For that, attempts were made on his life and he was run out of politics by the NY Times.

Since then there has been a short list of admiral Americans that have tried to warn of the Fed. Currently Paul is the only well known standard bearer and nlo one seems to want to take up his calling.

The Fed wins via default/power/money and corrupt politicians.

I'm watching CNBC now and Bernanke is repeating the exact same answers to the same stale questions I've been hearing x 2-3 years. We're in the grips of a political coup financed by the Banking cartel.

revolutionarypolitics.tv/video/: Ron Paul vs Bernanke ∞ Do You Do Your Own Shopping? Inflation is Theft Revolution 2012

9 min. video. The topic of parallel, competing/alternative currencies (like gold and silver), which Bernanke tried to brush off as a foreign-investment type of thing (along the lines of Euro and Yen holdings) rather than a sound money medium of exchange for purchases and payments and such, starts at 6:19.

I think that would be the best place for him based on the problems he has caused.

You're welcome. Am glad that you brought the topic to our attention but my impression of The Hill article's author, Peter Schroeder, is that he unethically intended to mislead readers with his last paragraph on the groceries question that was inexplicably mis-sequenced and deadended to deviously paint Ron Paul as nonsensical. The video shows that the question was raised long before the end of the meeting and had to do with the issue of inflation. The Fed's orchestration of inflation and monetary policies contrary to the General Welfare is an Unconstitutional impairment of Contract obligations and values that Congress is prohibited from facilitating as a scofflaw accomplice.

I got that as soon as I saw Paul's questioning went beyond asking Bernanke about shopping for his own groceries. It is videos like this one that show to what degree our press goes to manipulate how we think about others.

Most in this country have not the slightest idea of how poorly the media reports to its listeners/viewers/readers.

Yes and they are also robbing us of our rightful form of government in the process by election fraud with their underhanded maneuvers to sway voters against Constitutional candidates like Ron Paul. Perhaps legislation is necessary to obligate the press to prominantly stamp all of their production-products with disclaimers to dispell any misperceptions of them as providing a public service when they are actually a twisted conglomeration of self-serving, corporate interests and aggressors against our Republic.
