Jackie Speier (D-CA) on Thursday said that if the sponsors of Rush Limbaugh’s radio show continued to support his “hate mongering” then women should boycott those companies. “I rise this morning to say to Rush Limbaugh, shame on you,” she said on the House floor. “Shame on you for being the hatemonger that you are. Shame on you for being misogynistic.” Limbaugh on Wednesday called Georgetown University law student Sandra Fluke a “prostitute” and a “slut” because of her testimony in Congress about contraception. Fluke explained that her friend, a lesbian, could not afford the oral contraception she needed to prevent ovarian cysts from forming because her university refused to pay for them on religious grounds. “After months of paying over $100 out-of pocket, she just couldn’t afford her medication anymore, and she had to stop taking it,” Fluke said. “Without her taking the birth control, a massive cyst the size of a tennis ball had grown on her ovary. She had to have surgery to remove her entire ovary as a result.” But on his show, Limbaugh accused Fluke of not being able to afford contraception because she was “having so much sex.” Then on Thursday, he demanded that women post sex tapes online if they use insurance-covered birth control. “Shame on you for calling the women of this country prostitutes,” Speier said. “Ninety-eight percent of the women in this country at some time in their lives used birth control.” “So I say to the women in this country, do something about this,” she continued. “I say to the women of this country, ask Century 21, Quicken Loans, Legal Zoom, and Sleep Number to stop supporting the hate mongering of Rush Limbaugh and if they do not do that, then I ask them to boycott those companies.”

And Planned Parenthood was out of birth control pills in that area? She couldn't get assistance at the Health Dept. either? Doubtful. Does the government entitle everyone to organ transplants at taxpayer expense if needed? I don't think so. The government doesn't even entitle the poor to pick out a pair of eyeglass frames of their choice above a certain price-range, which is bargain-basement. Do men have any reproductive rights in the Abortion issue? What can we do to have the government provide for them anatomically or for their lifestyle choices? What a treat to find that a topic that started with no mention of Jews turns into an opportunity for several of you to inject antisemitism into the thread. In the meantime, Rush Limbaugh has committed old fashioned, actionable, defamation (and that it was on national radio makes it libel instead of slander). Each radio station that carried his broadcast could be made liable as well. It's not enough to go after his sponsors. Complaints to the FCC against his broadcasters should also be made.

Limbaugh, being a brain-damaged pill popper, does not understand the nature of the birth control pill nor the story presented by Sandra Fluke. Limbaugh seems to think that birth control pills are like condoms - use one for each sex act, don't use them until there's a sex act. Actually, the pill has to be taken continually, one each day, regardless of whether the woman is having frequent sex or very little; it even requires a start-up month of daily pill- taking when another contraceptive method is recommended because the body has to first adjust to the pill. Second, and maybe this is more important, Sandra Fluke was describing another young woman - who was not having sex with men - who was afflicted with painful overian cysts (unrelated to her sex life) - the birth control pills had a secondary effect of reducing these cysts and the pain they caused. Because the Georgetown student health plan would not provide these pills at all - even for non-contraceptive purposes - her cysts became so severe that she was required to have surgery to remove one of her two ovaries. So she is now less likely to give birth permanently, although she definitely wasn't doing anything to risk pregnancy while in school; also, the loss of an ovary will probably necessitate taking some hormonal replacement for the rest of her life, considerably more troublesome and expensive than just the birth control pill. Limbaugh didn't understand any of this. That, 50 years after its invention, he thinks that the birth control pill is taken one-per-sex-act, is the sort of mistake you'd expect from promiscuous 12-year-olds, not a purported mature man.
