I've stopped using Google for anything after years.

I find Yahoo's search to be very comparable in accuracy.

I'm also using Ixquick and Startpage.com and I'm looking at DuckDuckGo. These are all non-tracking search engines.

I haven't decided either - other than not using Google. I did like Scroogle but it's gone. So I'm alternating between DuckDuckGo and Ixquick (which I have been using for a while. Ixquick has image searches which I like.

I think a lot of us having been thinking about the Google threat for some time now.

But this new privacy policy has pushed a lot of people into taking action to stop them.

I think Google will rue the day it tried this. Just like what happened to Netflix, maybe more so.

Google has become a behemoth and a virtual monopoly if not de facto. Scroogle was one reaction to it but unfortunately that has gone away. However, you are right in that the more savvy net users are beginning to stay away from google if they can.

...the more savvy net users are beginning to stay away from google if they can.

I see something more on the geek sites.

Always, we took Google's word that they would avoid Being Evil. It was their motto.

Now, people are ready to do something about it. And, as with the actions taken before against Microsoft and others, the industry recognizes that Google is a hog. Specifically, Google is shoving us all in the meatgrinder because they're terrified of Facebook.

Google has lost something precious: a general trust in the industry, the benefit of the doubt in nearly every instance. You can't measure it but it is a sea-change in how ordinary users and the industry looks at Google.
