The fate of Osama bin Laden's remains have been called into question after emails leaked from an intelligence analysis firm say the body of the terror leader was actually sent to the U.S. for cremation. The emails were allegedly obtained by the hacker group Anonymous from Stratfor, an organisation dealing with analysis of intelligence and geopolitical analysis. It's also known as the 'Shadow CIA'. Last week, Anonymous announced that it had gotten access to 2.7million of the firm’s confidential correspondences, and said they could provide 'the smoking gun for a number of crimes'. The hackers said Stratfor, based in Austin, Texas, were 'clueless' when it came to database security. After bin Laden was killed in the famous raid in Pakistan on May 2 2011, the Obama administration said his body was buried at sea off the USS Carl Vinson - in accordance with Islamic tradition. But in a particular set of emails given to WikiLeaks, the firm’s vice president for intelligence, Fred Burton, says he doubts the official White House version of what happened to bin Laden's body. Stratfor’s vice-president for intelligence, Fred Burton, says the body was 'bound for Dover, [Delaware] on [a] CIA plane' and 'onward to the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology in Bethesda [Maryland]'. (More at the link above) Also, one other thing. This was up on Drudge, as the headline this morning. After about 15 minutes, it was about Super Tuesday, and NOTHING about Osama on the site. Drudge is likely coopted.

It was hard for me to believe the US gov would be satisfied with military grunts telling them that they killed OBL and dumped his body in the sea. Hell, the US still has smallpox samples they won't even destroy. Why would they destroy OBL's body, assuming he was ever even killed? Much easier to believe he was captured alive and is being held and tortured somewhere, all the more convenient with the world thinks his body is dead and gone. So convenient to have no trace of his remains to prove he's dead.
Not much of a smoking gun. Stratfor supposedly thought his body was being air-freighted back to the States (if these emails weren't forged). Stratfor is little more than a glorified blog with some analytic articles. Kind of a homegrown Texas geostrategic operation from I've been able to gather. They may be more credible than Debka but that isn't saying much. They also have not made clear what information they had about the transport of the body and where they got the info. It's awfully convenient when the supposed intel sources are confidential. Stratfor refuses to explain any of it and insist some of Wikileaks' published emails are forged. They have released all their site's content for free currently and the founder/CEO of Stratfor (a total tool) offers the following explanation. I'm George Friedman, founder and CEO of Stratfor. Exactly so. And why has that junior OBL wife (and his other older wives) seem to have disappeared from the face of the earth? It is more than a little suspicious, given the trouble we go to to capture and interrogate far more minor players. OBL's intel would be worth far less if people still thought he was alive. And if it was known he was taken alive, the al-Q's would be more likely to execute procedures to deepen their cover, move their money, find new safehouses, change their comm setup, etc.
Whoever wrote this email, and whoever decided to make it public, has done considerable injury to the US. Even though this story of Bin Laden's body being kept and taken to the US is probably false, probably nothing but wild speculation by someone with no knowledgeable sources, etc., it puts Americans at risk throughout the Muslim world. Just as the disrespectful treatment of copies of Koran led to several deaths a very few weeks ago, the disrespectful treatment of a Muslim leader's body - even if he was adjudged a criminal by most of the world - will arouse a lot of animosity.
One must wonder if this is not more disinformation. For an intelligence operation to be credible, even a private one, they would have to know who really runs the world and that should be reflected in the documents. That leaves 2 possibilities. 1. Stratfor is incompetent. 2. The release was intentional disinformation. Personally I lean towards "2". When I first heard the claim that OBL's body was dumped at sea, I was immediately suspicious. It is simply very out of character for the US to do that sort of thing, and I think any objective person who reasons things through would agree. It *IS* certainly within the gov's character to report to the world it disposed of his body while keeping him alive and in secret custody. We already know that the "secret custody" think is very much in practice for the CIA and friends, and the US already has a historical record of swearing troops to secrecy for national security matters, so it's no stretch at all to suggest that they took OBL alive and still have him. We just don't know. That the gov apparently refused to return his body to the Taliban is reason to support such suspicion. If the gov was really concerned about pacifying the Afghan Taliban fighters, as they were when they condemned US troops peeing on dead Taliban fighters, then returning his body would have been the best thing to do. So why didn't they do it? There's no way I'm the only one who would be so suspicious, as most of the planet simply doesn't trust the USA.
Hi P- Could it be time for you to make a Ecuador report? U are living a very diff life than most of us. Quandoqueria. Hey Tom. Not much to report. But maybe I'm just used to things here. Rainy weather is passing and it's getting nicer out with more sunshine and blue skies. Figuring out whether to go another year in our 400/month 3.5 bathroom house, in a very nice gated community, or maybe we could do okay on a $300 house elsewhere. (I learned that 900/month is a good deal in the USA about now). I'll be putting in for citizenship here in a few months so I'll have 2 passports instead of just one. Great for those times when being a US citizen is more of a liability than a benefit. The government here is basically a monarchy at this point... elected president has pretty much the same powers as royalty did in the 1800's, I think, but at least there's no bureaucracy to micromanage everybody all the time, so it's pretty free. The town I'm in continues to grow. Roads are insufficient but that doesn't stop the builders from building or the people moving into town. Not much else changes. Fresh food still cheap. Weather pretty constant year round. Kinda miss the snowy weather. Beaches are warm. Mountains great scenery. People not very trustworthy... same ole same ole...
Alleged disrespectful treatment of the Koran in Iraq and Afghanistan. Alleged War Misconduct, Abuses, and War Crimes. Alleged Troop desecration of Taliban bodies. Burying him on land could have led to his grave becoming a focus of contention and pilgrimage as well as posing tough questions about where he should be laid to rest. . . . Senior US officials told news agencies that his body was disposed of in accordance with Islamic tradition, which involves ritual washing, shrouding and burial within 24 hours. The 24-hour rule has not always been applied in the past. For example, the bodies of Uday and Qusay Hussein – sons of the Iraqi dictator Saddam – were embalmed and held for 11 days after they were killed by US forces. Their bodies were later shown to media, provoking some angry responses. . . . In terms of the basic requirements for Muslim burials, standard practice involves placing the body in a grave with the head pointed toward the holy city of Mecca. Burial at sea is rare in Islam, though Muslim websites say it is permitted in certain circumstances. One is during a long voyage where the body may decompose and pose a health hazard to a ship's passengers, an exception noted on Monday by Tunisian scholar Ahmed al-Gharbi. Another is if there is a risk of enemies digging up a and grave and exhuming or mutilating the body. In the words of alislam.org, the body should be lowered into the water "in a vessel of clay or with a weight tied to its feet". Mohammed al-Qubaisi, Dubai's grand mufti, said of Bin Laden's burial: "They can say they buried him at sea, but they cannot say they did it according to Islam. Sea burials are permissible for Muslims in extraordinary circumstances. This is not one of them." Abdul-Sattar al-Janabi, who preaches at Baghdad's Abu Hanifa mosque, said: "What was done by the Americans is forbidden by Islam and might provoke some Muslims. "It is not acceptable and it is almost a crime to throw the body of a Muslim man into the sea. The body of Bin Laden should have been handed over to his family to look for a country to bury him." So much for this fiction of Muslims burying anyone at sea or that we followed Islamic tradition. We should have buried him in a secret grave (like deep in the Sahara or the Saudi desert) but with proper ritual.

Someone who was on kidney dialysis back at the turn of the century was already very sick and it is doubtful he hung about all those years waiting for someone to kill him. Personally I lean towards "2". Or Osama died at Tora Bora ten years ago. Or they captured him and he's undergoing torture in Thailand or Romania. We'll never know what really happened.
Or they are patsies serving multiple purposes. First, spread crucial disinformation as a setup for other CIA projects. Second, provide fall guys and justification for the huge push to silence any whistleblowers permanently.
That is pretty much how I read it early on. Track the whistleblowers and if they know anything too damaging they "have an accident". It does track. Look at Obama's war on whistleblowers, far worse than anything a GOP president did in the modern era.
