Title: Kansas Bill Allows Doctors To Lie To Women To Prevent Abortion, Forces Women To Pay A Tax To Get One

The Kansas House of Representatives is considering an anti-abortion bill introduced by Republican Rep. Lance Kinzer, that would make it drastically more difficult for women to have the procedure. Buried in the 69 page bill were multiple anti-abortion provisions that have already been proposed in states like Texas, Oklahoma, and Arizona, which could make this bill by far the most extreme anti-abortion bill in America. And Governor Brownback intends to sign it into law when it gets through the legislature.

The bill would impose a 6.3% tax on all abortions. Even women who are raped would have to pay it if they want the procedure. And women who have emergency abortions to save their lives wouldn’t be exempt from the tax either. Part of the bill would also allow doctors to lie to women about prenatal problems that may cause them to choose abortion, such as an ectopic pregnancy, which is fatal in most cases. This provision is similar to a bill passed by the Arizona Senate on Tuesday. The Kansas bill also forces doctors to tell women that abortion causes breast cancer, which is a total lie that has been debunked by medical science. It could also revoke the accreditation of the University of Kansas Medical Center’s OB-GYN program and would force women to hear the heart beat of the fetus before getting an abortion.

This bill makes the lives of women in Kansas a living hell. It would make abortion more costly and would cause pregnant women to lose trust in their medical providers. How can women truly trust their doctors if they are allowed to keep critical medical information from them? It would also be a serious violation of privacy and could affect birth control medication.

Sarah Gillooly of Planned Parenthood says that the bill could require those who enforce the tax to view the private medical records of women, which would violate medical privacy laws, and could apply a sales tax on contraception. Gillooly asks, “How does Walgreens tax abortion medication and not birth control?”

Republicans have gone way over the edge with this bill. They are literally putting government directly into the private lives of women. Pregnant women will no longer have control over their health care decisions and privacy. They will be force fed false information about abortion while critical medical information could be withheld from them by their own doctors. Women will even find it more difficult to access contraception because Kansas Republicans intend to make it more expensive. It also endangers the overall health of women because by killing OB-GYN programs, women would be at greater risk of cancers and infections that gynocologists check for. This is the most sickening anti-abortion bill in any state in America. At this point, if women care about their personal liberty and their right to make their own decisions about their bodies, they should probably abandon Kansas and let the men live there by themselves. Because Kansas has certainly become the most difficult place to be a woman. Conservative white men have declared all-out war against women in America. It’ll take a new women’s rights movement to fight back.

Arizona Senate Passes Bill Allowing Doctors To Not Inform Women Of Prenatal Issues To Prevent Abortions

It’s called a “wrongful birth” bill and it’s all about preventing women from having an abortion, even if it kills them. The Arizona Senate passed a bill this week that gives doctors a free pass to not inform pregnant women of prenatal problems because such information could lead to an abortion.

In other words, doctors can intentionally keep critical health information from pregnant women and can’t be sued for it. According to the Arizona Capitol Times, “the bill’s sponsor is Republican Nancy Barto of Phoenix. She says allowing the medical malpractice lawsuits endorses the idea that if a child is born with a disability, someone is to blame.” So Republicans are banning lawsuits against doctors who keep information from pregnant women so as to prevent them from choosing to have an abortion

This bill is actually more disturbing than the Republicans seem to realize. Giving doctors such a free pass risks the lives of both the expectant mother and the fetus she carries. Prenatal care isn’t just for discovering birth defects and disabilities. It is also for discovering life threatening issues such as an ectopic pregnancy which often requires an abortion to save the life of the mother. With rare exceptions, ectopic pregnancies are not viable anyway, but Republicans are allowing anti-abortion doctors to keep life threatening information from pregnant women all because they are obsessed with stopping any and all abortions. Women may not know they have a life threatening condition until they die on the emergency room table. And the doctor couldn’t be sued.

This is an egregious bill that will lead to higher mortality rates for infants and mothers. Doctors should be held accountable for not disclosing information learned from prenatal examinations. Pregnant women have the right to know if their future child is going to have a disability or if the pregnancy may require an induced abortion to save their lives. Any decision that is made as a result of the information is the mothers own. Doctors should not be allowed to make decisions for pregnant women as a way to prevent abortions. Women have the right to make their own health decisions and hiding critical information is irresponsible, unconscionable, and risks lives. In the end, Republicans are only putting more lives in jeopardy. They might as well call this the ‘let women die’ bill.

As a Christian I know abortion is murder. But this is based on $$$ and not some faith rationale. I am anti-abortion but to deny a women the knowledge that if she carries the baby to term it could result in her death is the same as murder should the mother die.

If the mother choses to have the abortion to save her own life that is her decision and what happens when that woman stands in front of Him and has to answer will be His decision. The womaan nor anybody else will have any input on that decision. But remember, the Lord is merciful if one is truly sorry. Otherwise those like David, Moses and such would never have had a chance.

The State might allow doctors to lie to their patients (e.g., by making it impossible to sue them for malpractice) - but the Medical Society might yet trump by yanking the doctor's license or his hospital privileges.
