Suppose you smoke one pack per day.

365 packs divided by 10 = 37 cartons.

The average price per carton in my area is $45.

That is $1665 per year.

You will pay more if you buy them by the pack. But I'll use the carton price.

Now, if you make your own:

1 lb = $10 = mild pipe tobacco. You will get more than 2 cartons out of 1 lb, but I won't count the extra. Consider it a bonus.

A years supply @ 1 pack per day is 19 lbs = $190

A cartons worth of tubes = $4. A years supply of tubes = $148

TOTAL COST = $338

Total SAVINGS = $1327

It takes me 10 minutes of lackadaisical effort to make a pack. So a years worth in time is (10x365)/60 is 60 hours per year.

For each hour you make your own cigs, you pay yourself $21 per hour. MINIMUM.

And to those that say "save it all and quit smoking", I tell you to fuck off. Everyone has a vice. I'll give up my vice when you give up trying to molest little kids.

i dont smoke, but if i did, that sounds like a darn good plan. i would bet though that most smokers would be too lazy to do it.

I have been making my own in this fashion since 2000. I am now down to only making 2 cigs a day because I have switched to the e-cigs for health reasons. With even the e-cigs if one should go this route, purchasing bottles of e-juice to refill the cartrigdes has even more cost savings than filling tubes with bagged tobacco. Now, if I could make my own booze, I would have all my vices covered.

tobacco will become a huge trade commodity when the system fails, even if one does not smoke it would be good to set a few pounds aside with one's PMs and base metals such as lead, copper and brass, food and water.

Now, if I could make my own booze, I would have all my vices covered.

I made my own wine. Once. When I was about 18 or so.

used blackberries and who knows how much sugar I dumped into the watercooler sized container. It was a lot.

I let it ferment for some time. Then I filtered it.

Then I drank a bottle.

Then that very night I decided to never get drunk again. And I haven't.

Vaccuum sealed in bags or cannisters. Vaccuum packed it should last for years.

After smoking two packs a day for 30 years I now vape (electronic cigs). Been off cigs for 17 months. No tar, no carcinogens (as far as is known), no smell, no ashes, no yellowing of everything. I buy the liquid in bulk and mix it myself. Costs about the same for a year as rolling your own ($300).

Well it's about time you learned to roll your own... Every smoker should... To start with our tubes don't have the CFC self extinguishing chemical BS sprayed or ingrained in it.

Simple paper...

Now I smoke American spirit. .. Most expensive most pure. No added BS. I buy by the can. One can makes about 200 cigs or one carton... give or take a pack depending on how I roll,.. I pay 34 per can. and 2 bucks for 200 tubes to roll with... my rolling machine cost 13 bucks (it is a west german piece of awesome... cheaper models cost around 10... .. they don't roll as perfectly as this does.)

So... best tobacco I can buy... (second)cheapest filtered tubes I can buy... menthol. 38 bucks is my carton of smokes.

and yeah I dislike my smokeing..... I have my own FUs and they inculde all of us.

smokeing once and a while is how it is supposed to be... a pack or a half a pack a day... thats abuse of a substance... and I am guilty... give me a long enough day and I'll bite people...All the same... I would like to quit. I'd like others to quit... or moderate better....meh... thats them...I have my concerns for others but their life is theres.... MY LIFE>>>.... I am a smoker... I smoke the best shit I can because it hurts me the least.. smoking other shit is now out of the question... I am spoiled on the good shit. Camels marlboros, winstons... all suck compared to the good shit...all that said... If I could stop I would..all the same since I aint stopping I smoke the best I can....

Also I feel those second hand smoke crybabys are full of shit. I may not like my habit but I am fully realistic about the risks both to me and those that may or may not be around me as I smoke... fuck em... I make the effort to move away. If they still come in my personal space while I indulge in my nasty habit well... thats on them.

when the time comes that the stuff is not available it won't matter what kind you have, so I go with the mostest for the leastest. the original packaging is fine.

If I ever decide to quit, I found a hypnotist's mp3s for quitting.

If it works, I'll post it.

The one thing I miss about not smoking is smelling fresh clean early morning air. Now I only get it occasionally, just often enough to make me remember.

But if I quit, I'll have to come up with another vice to replace it.

Yes. I haven't done that in years though.

Plus that might be a better barter item than tobacco.
