I once had a Crown Victoria, and it took me two days to change the water pump. I had no idea how to do anything with the engine, even with the repair manual.

My Windstar van broke down because the plugs were worn out. It was a transverse V-6 -- except that it's not a V-6. The cyclinders are essentially in a flat plane -- opposed to each other. The front three came out no problem. The back three I had to do by feel, after taking off a bunch of stuff off the engine.

I ended up with bruised hands and forearms, cuts, and scapes. My friends were astonished when I showed them what I looked up.

I'm going back to Chevys. I will never own a Ford again.

You really need a Facebook or Tweet account. Your penchant for informing the world about every meaningless thought that crosses your mind would fit right in there.

So you like Fords, then?

My maternal grandpa owned a Chevy Dealership in Caruthersville, Mo for more than 50 years so I grew up with Chevy's but I have nothing against Ford's. I had a Ford F-150 years ago that was a great truck and and a Mercury Cougar too that was good.

But that's not why I made the comment.

I like Fords the best out of the three domestic mfgs. The F-150 is a pretty nice truck, especially if you get a King Ranch or Platinum edition. Their whole lineup is varied and has something for everybody. I'm seriously looking at a 2004 SVT Lightning that is about to come up for sale in my area, they're rare, fast, and are holding a higher-than-normal value for a used truck.

You should look at Nissan Frontier p/u's or Quest vans, they're extremely reliable and require little maintenance, my Frontier just rolled past 210,000 miles with no major repairs except the waterpump that took a shit at 185,000 miles.

Americans have always made great trucks...vans are a different story.

The only reason I bought this van is because it was so cheap and all the bugs were fixed. It's really a pretty good one but OMG those back plugs are unbelievable.

This is what I had to do just to get to the three back plugs.

vans are a different story.

I have two different friends who own Chevy vans. Beware of the motors that open and close the windows. They are notorious for going bad and they cost and arm and a leg to buy and replace.

My Mom has a Nissan Murano that's pretty sweet.

Plugs generally last 100,000 miles and since the van has 195,000 on it I'll never have to change them again.

I regret changing them and if I could do it again I'd pay to have it done.

Those are uber-cool. My Mom got a new Honda CRV last year, it's her second one. My brother's step-daughter got her old one, Mom only put about 45,000 miles on it over eight years.

Don't blame you. The only vehicle I ever enjoyed working on was my 68' GTO back when I was a teen.

Those things get great gas mileage I hear. That's going to come in handy this summer.

My Frontier p/u is still rocking at 26+ MPG (4-cylinder, 5-spd). I keep looking at the new F-150's with the V-6, but they just don't get the MPG that my Nissan does.

Speaking of gas mileage, has the number of new Cameros, Challengers, and Chargers sitting in used car lots in your part of the country increased? They seem to be everywhere around here. I guess the reality of owning a high performance, gas guzzling V8 wasn't as pleasant as the dream.

No, the economy is not as depressed in North Texas and folks still want their toys. The Grapevine Ford dealer is the #2 Mustang dealer in the US, they turn over a hefty volume of F-150's, also. This area is an anomaly and not like the rest of the country.

I'm going back to Chevys. I will never own a Ford again.

All cars are like that now. Makes no difference.
I have owned both, and on both you almost have to remove the engine to do anything.
