A couple of new posts from Poor-Richard's Blog-

I am passing this along...there are comments from two other people I have also been asked if we keep guns in the house. The nurse just kinda slipped it in along with all the other regular questions. I told her I refused to answer because it was against the law to ask. Everyone, whether you have guns or not, should give a neutral answer so they have no idea who does and who doesn't.

My doctor asked me if I had guns in my house and also if any were loaded. I , of course, answered yes to both questions. Then he asked why I kept a loaded gun close to my bed. I answered that my son, who is a certified gun instructor and also works for Homeland Security, advised me that an unloaded, locked up gun is no protection against criminal attack. The Government now requires these questions be asked of people on Medicare, and probably everyone else.

Just passing this along for your information: I had to visit a doctor other than my regular doctor when my doctor was on vacation. One of the questions on the form I had to fill out was: Do you have any guns in your house?? My answer was None of your damn business!! So it is out there!

It is either an insurance issue or government intervention. Either way, it is out there and the second the government gets into your medical records (As they want to under Obamacare) it will become a major issue and will ultimately result in lock and load!!

Please pass this on to all the other retired guys and gun owners...Thanks.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
From a Vietnam Vet and retired Police Officer:
I had a doctors appointment at the local VA clinic yesterday and found out something very interesting that I would like to pass along.
While going through triage before seeing the doctor, I was asked at the end of the exam, three questions:
1. Did I feel stressed?
2. Did I feel threatened?
3. Did I feel like doing harm to someone?
The nurse then informed me, that if I had answered yes to any of the questions, I would have lost my concealed carry permit as it would have gone into my medical records and the VA would have reported it to Homeland Security.
Looks like they are going after the vets first. Other gun people like retired law enforcement will probably be next. Then when they go after the civilians, what argument will they have?
Be forewarned and be aware. The Obama administration has gone on record as considering veterans and gun owners potential terrorists. Whether you are a gun owner veteran or not, YOU'VE BEEN WARNED !
If you know veterans and gun owners, please pass this on to them. Be very cautious about what you say and to whom. Subscribe to *Jack-Booted Thugs*
Sounds like an urban legend from the interwebs.
Veterans can lose their weapons permit if they answer yes to three questions in a medical exam - Fiction!
Summary of the eRumor:
A forwarded email that cautions veterans about questions that maybe asked while in treatment at the Veterans Hospital.  The email says that if a veteran is asked about being stressed, feeling threatened or wanting to harm someone and if their answer is yes they could lose any authorization to carry a concealed weapon.
The Truth:
This one is fiction.  A spokesperson at the Veterans Hospital told TruthorFiction.com that all patients are protected by doctor/patient confidentiality and any information taken by the Veterans Administration (VA) is never shared with any outside agencies.   The only exemption to the case would be if a hospital were asked to assist in a criminal investigation.
The three questions about feeling stressed, threatened and desiring to harm others are to test for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) which some of our men and women in the armed services have suffered as a result of combat.   This test is administered to many patients who served in the Gulf War, Afghanistan and Iraq.
This one has been around for a while, since 2009. Certainly, we know the military is trying to reduce its suicide rates among active-duty and veterans.
Good news if it's just an urban legend. Thanks for the info, TC.
Nothing wrong with raising the question, examining the actual impact of the military's new mental health initiative. We do know that a few vets lost their gun rights in past years so vigilance is certainly warranted. We do know that pediatricians, as a group, are quite anti-gun. I'd worry more about them for parents with kids at home than about the VA doctors (at present anyway).
Based on this info, it isn't time to panic down at the VFW hall. But I think vets will want to know what they may be asked by a VA doctor and why.
I like to think that more info is almost always better. Of course, I never get asked to any nice cocktail parties either.
I usually don't either. lol Nice of you not to be as miffed about that false alarm due to insufficient research prior to sending as Devvy Kidd might be: Sick Of Internet Hoaxes And Half Truths. Good of her, though, to take the time to try and correct some misperceptions and good thing you were online with research to do that too. If your source was Snopes, though, I'd be skeptical enough to figure I better go do more research pronto instead of take a coffee break. :)
Most folks who are--shall I say more aware?--don't use Snopes to prove or disprove much of anything.
Therefore it must be the gospel truth.     : )
The relationship between morality and liberty is a directly proportional one.
"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your counsel nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.”
I think finding out what they are asking and why is a good thing. So is considering your answers in advance.
Part of ObummerCare are the requirements that doctors ask certain mental health questions. And we should be wary of what we say before it finds its way into a permanent federal record. Certainly, Obama has minions that would love to make your doctor into a spy for the state.
I wasn't talking about you, figured you had better sense than to trust Snopes. I wouldn't believe them if they said good morning.
Snopes is actually pretty good at finding things that are true but sound unbelievable.
Claim: A masturbating machine-shop worker catches his scrotum in a piece of machinery and tears it open, then staples it back together and resumes work before finally visiting a doctor three days later.
Ouch. I did like that part where the doctor was debating where his missing testicle ended up in the rafters of the machine shop.
Well, as long as it is something that won't hurt Obama they probably tell the truth about it. But where Obama is concerned they are every bit as bad as the msm.
