If you want to block trackers (including Google), you should use Ghostery. Available for all major web browsers (IE, Opera, Safari, Firefox).

You'd be surprised just how many outfits track you everywhere.

On Firefox, I also like NoScript and AdBlock Plus externsions. And I use the BetterPrivacy extension to control the use of Adobe supercookies (which can be used to track you everywhere, no matter your privacy settings).

You really have to be a little paranoid to even cover your tracks to a limited extent.
