The relationship between morality and liberty is a directly proportional one.

"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your counsel nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.”

For $69 I may check out LegalZoom.com - here, I can't get 15 minutes of a lawyer's time for that amount.

I am of the opinion that the online wills are for fairly simple estates. If you're one of the 1% (the same 1% that could be hit with estate taxes) it would be advisable to have a good estates & trusts lawyer not only work up a will but also do some other arranging - while you're still alive - to minimize the tax bite and make the inheritances more efficient.

You can get will kits at Office Depot, etc.

Jesus Lod! From what little I know about your ass ets (Ooops) you need a Trust, which when done right will include a will. How much are you willing to let the state get their hands on when you quit posting? I'd spend it all to keep them from getting a dime. See an estate planner or prepare to have 1/2 of anything you've socked away in paper assets go to the war effort.

Full disclosure: I haven't done it either

I can do serviceable work-arounds on their non-state specific residential leases; but I'm loathe to try it on a will.

There's always the self-proving handwritten will, but I can see where that could go badly, quickly.

It took my brother and me two years and 35K to get properties in two other states into our names, from our dad's bullet-proof trust. ha

To me, trusts are the least understood, and most over-hyped instruments that a blood-sucker can foist off on us.

Interesting. All states are different and interstate is a complication, (you may not have to deal with) shop wisely. Israel needs more missiles and the local school board needs 2 more mid-level managers.

Thanks to the lawyers, any will can go badly now. Once you're dead, you have no say so. If there's a possibility of a contest, best to give away your stuff while you're alive. You can give individuals each $13,000/year without tax consequences. Properties & investments can be given away in any amount with no tax consequence until it's sold, but since the cost basis to the seller is zero, they'll have a hefty capital gains tax on the way out.

Plus you get the satisfaction of knowing your wishes were respected.
