AP: Zimmerman To Be Charged With 2nd Degree Murder George Zimmerman will be charged with second-degree murder in the shooting of unarmed Florida teen Trayvon Martin, the Associated Press reports. Both the AP and NBC News report that Zimmerman is in police custody. The charges are expected to be announced at 6 p.m. ET. Reported by David Taintor

IMO, the prosecutor, by charging Zimmerman w/2degree murder, gave the defense a better than 50/50 chance of having the case tossed. The burden of proof will require the State to convince a jury that Zimmerman acted with a depraved mind, *and* that (as per the Castle Doctrine) he didn't feel as though his life was in danger. That is quite a legal hill to climb. Had they went with manslaughter or homicide, their chances of a conviction would have jumped up considerably. If I lived in FL, I'd be preparing myself for a Rodney King-like response to an acquittal. It appears the fuse is about to be lit.

Had a case here about two years ago where a liquor store guy knew the two black men in his store shoplifted from him before, they did so again, ran, he chased with arms, put a shot into the car they were in hit one in the jaw, bullet continued into buddies leg (couldn't have done too much damage)and he was in jail for about three days or so, then released. Big to do in the paper, he seemed to be in big trouble - I personally guessed he would get three years, one served or something like that. Well as it turned out the kids were gang members, and it was all quietly dropped. I was quite surprised. I thought the owner was cooked. And the disposition was never, AFAIK, recorded in the paper. Am sure it cost the owner at least 10,000 in legal fees. And maybe be a $25000 donation to the kids jaw reconstruction. Beats the heck out of a couple of years in jail. Yep, she's trying to play tough, but she's simply dopey.

Thanks for the reply - you have much more color than I do on these matters. Political whore.....that charge is at least one to two notches over the top, and you can't tell me she doesn't know the ramifications of an acquittal. But that's most likely what she was told to do. If anyone thinks the WH wasn't consulted before this charge was leveled is living in Disneyland.

Zimmerman is a dead man walking, regardless of outcome. My odds say he goes to prison and it will be white America that sends him there. On the final day, when the jury goes out, I would vacate any city with a large black population.

Could be, but given the high profile of this thing, I'm not sure the Drivers of this mess would be satisfied with anything less than a few decades. If I were Zimmerman, I'd roll the dice if that was their "deal."
This deal has been politicized to such an extent that a fair trial is not likely. Another thing that seems strange to me is that the DA didn't get an indictment and Zimmerman was charged by information. Unless Zimmerman's lawyer sells him out he'll walk. Which may explain why that is the charge. Politically, the case has already been tried in the Press and the Persecutor was no doubt feeling the political heat as well as the cacophony of the "Race Baiting Poverty Pimps™" Jackscoon and his All my neighbors are either white or Messicans. The Mexicans are not too tolerant of blacks - less so that Stormfront. Agree. I understand this prosecutor is know as being "aggressive" and once charged a 13 y/o with 1st degree murder. I have no idea if that is true, nor do I have information about the outcome, but I suspect we have a potential Casey Anthony matter here. A classic case of an over charge with a potential devastating outcome.
They, the establishment, want a head on a pike to quiet the unrest in ignorant black community who follow the FBI's trained provocateur Jackscoon. It is interesting to watch though. The black community has been so driven away from amity that robbery in broad daylight is tolerated and applauded in Baltimore when it is a white victim but if anyone should strike back against a black thug the trained response is "it all be whitey's fault". Zimmerman has not been tried yet and all of the facts are not in evidence but Jackscoon and company are calling for his head because he is not black.
