AP: Zimmerman To Be Charged With 2nd Degree Murder

George Zimmerman will be charged with second-degree murder in the shooting of unarmed Florida teen Trayvon Martin, the Associated Press reports. Both the AP and NBC News report that Zimmerman is in police custody. The charges are expected to be announced at 6 p.m. ET. Reported by David Taintor

IMO, the prosecutor, by charging Zimmerman w/2degree murder, gave the defense a better than 50/50 chance of having the case tossed. The burden of proof will require the State to convince a jury that Zimmerman acted with a depraved mind, *and* that (as per the Castle Doctrine) he didn't feel as though his life was in danger. That is quite a legal hill to climb. Had they went with manslaughter or homicide, their chances of a conviction would have jumped up considerably.

If I lived in FL, I'd be preparing myself for a Rodney King-like response to an acquittal. It appears the fuse is about to be lit.

Which may explain why that is the charge. Politically, the case has already been tried in the Press and the Persecutor was no doubt feeling the political heat as well as the cacophony of the "Race Baiting Poverty Pimps™" Jackscoon and his trusty sidekick Al.

Agree. I understand this prosecutor is know as being "aggressive" and once charged a 13 y/o with 1st degree murder. I have no idea if that is true, nor do I have information about the outcome, but I suspect we have a potential Casey Anthony matter here. A classic case of an over charge with a potential devastating outcome.

They, the establishment, want a head on a pike to quiet the unrest in ignorant black community who follow the FBI's trained provocateur Jackscoon. It is interesting to watch though. The black community has been so driven away from amity that robbery in broad daylight is tolerated and applauded in Baltimore when it is a white victim but if anyone should strike back against a black thug the trained response is "it all be whitey's fault". Zimmerman has not been tried yet and all of the facts are not in evidence but Jackscoon and company are calling for his head because he is not black.
