AP: Zimmerman To Be Charged With 2nd Degree Murder George Zimmerman will be charged with second-degree murder in the shooting of unarmed Florida teen Trayvon Martin, the Associated Press reports. Both the AP and NBC News report that Zimmerman is in police custody. The charges are expected to be announced at 6 p.m. ET. Reported by David Taintor

IMO, the prosecutor, by charging Zimmerman w/2degree murder, gave the defense a better than 50/50 chance of having the case tossed. The burden of proof will require the State to convince a jury that Zimmerman acted with a depraved mind, *and* that (as per the Castle Doctrine) he didn't feel as though his life was in danger. That is quite a legal hill to climb. Had they went with manslaughter or homicide, their chances of a conviction would have jumped up considerably. If I lived in FL, I'd be preparing myself for a Rodney King-like response to an acquittal. It appears the fuse is about to be lit.

Had a case here about two years ago where a liquor store guy knew the two black men in his store shoplifted from him before, they did so again, ran, he chased with arms, put a shot into the car they were in hit one in the jaw, bullet continued into buddies leg (couldn't have done too much damage)and he was in jail for about three days or so, then released. Big to do in the paper, he seemed to be in big trouble - I personally guessed he would get three years, one served or something like that. Well as it turned out the kids were gang members, and it was all quietly dropped. I was quite surprised. I thought the owner was cooked. And the disposition was never, AFAIK, recorded in the paper. Am sure it cost the owner at least 10,000 in legal fees. And maybe be a $25000 donation to the kids jaw reconstruction. Beats the heck out of a couple of years in jail. Yep, she's trying to play tough, but she's simply dopey.

Political whore.....that charge is at least one to two notches over the top, and you can't tell me she doesn't know the ramifications of an acquittal. But that's most likely what she was told to do. If anyone thinks the WH wasn't consulted before this charge was leveled is living in Disneyland.

Zimmerman is a dead man walking, regardless of outcome. My odds say he goes to prison and it will be white America that sends him there. On the final day, when the jury goes out, I would vacate any city with a large black population.

Which may explain why that is the charge. I have no idea if that is true, nor do I have information about the outcome, but I suspect we have a potential Casey Anthony matter here. A classic case of an over charge with a potential devastating outcome.

There is no doubt that Zimmerman is a busy body wannabe who took himself and his neighborhood watch duties too seriously. The number of calls he made to the police indicates that. I've met people like that and I don't like them. Having said that, I have read no article that makes the claim that Zimmerman confronted the guy, demanded to know who he was and tried to impede him from his business. What I have read is that he followed him and the guy turned around and attacked Zimmerman. The police report states that Zimmerman's face was messed up. A witness claims that Zimmerman was on his back with the guy on top of him giving him a beating. It seems like a clear cut case of self defense to me. On Monday evening, March 26th, two black males attacked a fifty year old white man just a few miles from where Trayvon Martin was shot. Police say he was initially attacked while sitting in the driver seat of his car. He was then drug out of his car and into a wooded area. The perpetrators then beat him in the head with a hammer and left him for dead. They fled in the victims car, but abandoned the vehicle a short distance away. The family believes the victim was on his way home from work and stopped at a store before being attacked right outside the Sanford city lines. The Orlando Sentinel wrote about the attack and asked for people to call the police tip line. They published a description of the attackers from an eyewitness, but censored the race of the attackers from the description. They also censored the race of the victim, even though his race was listed in the police report. On April 2nd the Orlando Sentinel reported that the two suspects had been arrested. The paper published their mug shots, but once again censored the race of the victim. The Orlando Sentinel writer who wrote both articles says that the race of the victim was known to him but censored in the two articles on purpose. He cited the newspapers policy. He says that the paper ”generally does not publish race unless there is a reason.” The papers’ website shows 396 Trayvon Martin articles. Race appears to be a major theme in most, if not all of them. Many of them mention race in the headline. I managed to get in contact with a family member of the victim. They do not want his name given out, as they still fear for his safety. His injuries are severe and he is still in critical condition and now has pneumonia. 75% of his skull was damaged in the attack. The victim also has a broken arm, a broken hand, and a broken jaw. His family and friends ask that you please pray for his recovery. The family commends the Sanford police for quickly finding and arrested the suspects. However, they say the Sanford police are very reluctant to treat it as a hate crime.
