she resisted and was cuffed.

Resisted?????? What a PC laff.

I remember when any wayward student got physical, they received a smack on their head, the teacher grabbed a handful of hair and the "child" would be slammed down into their seat.

That rarely happened, we had better upbringing and the teacher was God.

That was my response. This child was out of control and the mother's response was "she has mood swings"? There was some serious lack of parenting going on here. That said, calling the cops was not the answer.

Dr. Spock should have been called Dr. Fraud.

An adult can talk to their child and he will listen, AS LONG AS HE UNDERSTANDS THERE IS PHYSICAL PUNISHMENT IF HE DOES NOT.

Exactly! I had two intelligent and head strong boys. I would explain things and give reasons but there was always mamma will beat the crap out of you if you get out of hand. Small follow throughs made the threat real.

Exactly.

Now that is called "child abuse", back then Mom called it discipline.

My Mother had a strong left hand she used to ring my chimes now and again.

If it was a major offense, she would tell Dad when he got home, for instance get caught smoking. Got caught first time, consequently have never been a smoker. Thank them for that.

Not how it worked in our house. My husband would threaten with no results then he would resort to asking me to make them mind. All I would do is stand up and I would get results.

I remember one time at the grocery store, my oldest was acting up. I told him if he didn't straighten up I would beat him right there and no one would say a word cause he deserved it. The check out lady just smiled. He is a happy extremely well adjusted young man now.

Good for you. I'm glad he towed the mark and walks the line now, though. Aren't you? ;)

I have a couple of pretty good boys. Not saying they never got in trouble or that I was the perfect mom but they seem to have survived childhood.

I'm 48 y/o now, and never been hitched. Came close in Illinois once when I was dating a divorcee with two little boys. Sometimes she would take "the pill" after the fact. Still not sure if she had one of mine or not. ;)

Talk about red flags.

That's the way things go. Been a trucker for many years, but I got sick with meningitis. Now, there are quite a few things I need to catch up with.

I know. It's been a long time for me to get anything done outside of looking after my health the last few years. I had a blood clot in my leg last year and they took care of it by injecting me with anticoagulant. Have to go into the hospital this week to get my blood and urine checked again. Soon, I hope to be drivng intrastate for Wal-Mart. Nice thing about that is, no log required. ;)

Been there done that. Heparin shots in your stomach is nooooo fun. I ended up looking like a dalmatian. Sadly I have Lupus Anticoagulant Antibodies so I am prone to blood clots. I could not do professional driving because of it. I have trouble with the amount of driving I do now.

They gave it to me intra-venously. That seems the be the way to go now.

Needed some morphine to keep the pain to acceptable levels.
