LAS VEGAS -- Former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson is campaigning to win the White House as a Libertarian after receiving scant attention in the Republican presidential race.

Johnson easily became the party's presidential nominee at the Libertarian national convention in Las Vegas on Saturday. He hopes to appeal to voters fed up with the traditional two-party system this November.

Johnson was a longshot candidate for the Republican presidential nomination when he announced in December that he would instead pursue the Libertarian ticket.

He won 74 percent of the vote on the first ballot in Las Vegas, an unusual showing of support. In 2008, Libertarian delegates needed six rounds of voting to pick a presidential nominee.

Johnson supports legalized marijuana, low taxes and immigration reform.

He was elected New Mexico's governor in 1994.

I am tired of bitching and complaining for years about not having a third party. Just maybe I will go register and vote for Johnson.

Eighty million of us DONT VOTE, we could sure put the screws to the system.

Too encourage us, Johnson could hold an open season for a month on politicians over forty, that sure would thin the herd of misfits.

JOHNSON FOR PREZ, IF ELECTED WILL HOLD A MONTH LONG OPEN SEASON ON SCUM POLITICIANS.

I might even vote twice.

The first time I pulled the lever for a Libertarian was the 1980 presidential election, a man named Ed Clark.

Glad to have you on board, Cynicom.

That's the ballot access of the Libertarian Party in '08.

I'm thinking it hasn't changed much for '12.

The HERD has been brainwashed and programmed for so many years, that they no longer think for themselves.

Not me. I'm going to vote early and vote often like they do in Chicago.

At that convention there was a motion to suspend the rules in order to allow Ron Paul's name to be nominated, but the chairman ruled that the motion failed to get the required 2/3 vote by a voice vote. This despite the fact that Ron Paul had been their nominee back in 1988.

This closes off one chance for Ron Paul to run on a third party, although it is very probable that he could get the nomination from another third party.

Agree completely. The Rs and Ds have a vested interest in continuing to exclude the building of a 3rd party. It's all about ballot access and each state has a different set of hoops in place that make it easy to exclude righteous efforts. That is why 80 million people no longer bother voting, and that non participation is music to the ears to both wings of our National Party.

I also agree that a bad moon is rising. Some of us see it, and others will soon. I hope.

I am as ready as any to see that career prevaricator out of the White House, but to tell the truth I have no love whatsoever for the career prevaricators that would replace him and his administration.

I'll go the Cyni way, and I'll vote my conscience and pull the chain for a third party, more than likely the Libertarians.

The only change between Obumski and Romski is the color and that is not enough. Akin to be given a CHOICE of do you want to be shot or hung, either way YOU LOSE, THE SYSTEM WINS.

If Johnson wants a lot of votes, on the cheap and in a hurry, all he has to do is tell AMERICANS what he will do the first week via Executive Orders.

First EO, bring in the military, surround Washington and give ALL the damned politicians and appointed Jews twenty four hours to leave or be arrested. Those arrested will be given a one day trial, found guilty and shot the next day.

I have to admit that would get my vote!

Some with wickedly evil intent are no doubt thinking that should the White guy oust the Black guy, the racial bomb will explode. Their theory has some validity, IMO.

I might even vote more than once.

I specially like the part of giving the politicians a fair trial and then shoot them.

Creative????? One size fits all.
