Biophysicist with an interest in the ancient worlds, Dr. John DeSalvo, discussed his research into the power of crystals as well as their mystical counterpart, crystal skulls, and talked about the unusual properties associated with them. He theorized that crystal skulls evoke fascination because they are a combination of the beauty of crystal and the symbolism of death. "You put them together and they're hard to resist," he mused. Beyond that, he said that skulls have been carved using quartz crystal since antiquity and surmised that "whoever carved these structures realized there was something special about quartz."

DeSalvo detailed how his study of crystal skulls is a twofold method of research using both scientific tests as well as psychometry. He explained that, since his crystal skull is as small as a baseball, it allows for the object to fit entirely inside a scanning electron microscope, unlike larger skulls that have been studied. As such, he said, his crystal skull has been subjected to the most scientific testing of any such object in history. Based on the testing of the skull, it was shown that "no modern tools or techniques" could have created it and it was highly oxidized which suggests it was buried or underwater a long period of time. When the psychics examined the skull, DeSalvo revealed, they felt a strange or "alien" energy coming from the object and that "most of them think its some kind of transmitter and receiver." More information on DeSalvo's scientific research into crystal skulls can be found here:

Regarding supernatural elements associated with crystals and crystal skulls, DeSalvo said that they have been reported to "store information," transmit energy, and act as an amplifier for the subconscious. Beyond the alleged supernatural attributes, he noted that quartz crystal has two unique scientific properties, a piezoelectric effect as well as a stable oscillation when exposed to an electric charge. In light of all of these anomalies, De Salvo put forward his hypothesis that there is a "space time crystal matrix which gives quartz its paranormal properties." To that end, he proposed that it is extending into alternative dimensions and that "most of the substance of crystal exists in other paranormal realms." While DeSalvo was skeptical of the alleged healing power of crystals, he suggested that the ancients may have known how to harness it, but that knowledge has yet to develop in modern times.

A clumsy lab tech may have just doomed the world.

An ancient Mayan crystal skull — which is said to be among the magic artifacts that will save the Earth from destruction at the end of 2012 — wound up broken when a butterfingered German lab worker dropped it.

The skull had been in Germany since the 1930s, when it was stolen from Tibet by the Nazis. It had once belonged to the head of the Gestapo.

I recall the Indiana Jones film about the Crystal Skull. I did not know that Heinrich Mueller had owned it after it was stolen from Tibet. Interesting to say the least. ;)

semi-related blurb from ino.com -

A man murdered during a business meeting in New York City was a top official in a Florida dietary supplement company that has been the target of thousands of consumer complaints. He was meeting with five other men in the lobby, when one of them stood up and shot him five times. The shooter, Gary Zalevsky, then killed himself.

There is a grain of truth here which is difficult to comprehend. Quartz crystals do indeed have properties which could be harnessed. Though we may never know the truth about the ancient Mayan artifact, it is safe to say that it did indeed possess these strange properties.

Interesting.

In an unrelated matter when I read the name Dr DeSalvo my alarm went off.

Anyone else old enough to remember Albert DeSalvo?

Hmmmm...????

Yeah, I remember this bum. His father brutally tormented DeSalvo's family physically and mentally. There should be a special place in hell for parents like that.

DeSalvo egotistically wanted to be convicted as the Boston Strangler, but only ended up convicted for rape.

Interesting note on the circumspection of our legislature down here on Wiki:

"In 1971, the Texas legislature unanimously passed a resolution honoring DeSalvo in an April Fool's Day joke made by Waco Representative Tom Moore, Jr.. Moore admitted to the joke–made to prove his colleagues were not putting due diligence into researching legislation they were passing–and withdrew the resolution.[6]"

Wow! Speaking of stogies, remember this?

Edie Adams sings her classic TV spot

The minute you walked in the joint
I could see you were a man of distinction
A real big spender, good looking, so refined
I figured that you're the Muriel cigar smoking kind.
So let me get right to the point
You're right in style when you're in Muriel's company
Hey! Big Spender, spend a little dime with me.
Hey! Big Spender, spend a little dime with me.

{Edie Adams speaks]

"Join the Muriel mild crowd. Pick one up and smoke it some time."
