What's the hotel situation in like in ......I forgot your town.. Ambato? Always thought Ecuador was great - looking better and better. Been to Cuenca? Yes, plenty of room. Steerage on the Titanic. Patagonia is looking more attractive by the minute.
Ambato is about 2 hours away from here. Large town by EC standards, and gives a good view of an active volcano that's blown it's top about 3 times in the 5-6 years I've been here. Lower end but decent hotels/hostels here can be had starting at 15/night per person. If you're paying more than 20/person, you've got a pretty good place. Still not 5-star but... It's got it's advantages. Once. Whole lot better than Guayaquil, but a bit cool and rainy much of the time. 4 rivers flow through the town and they flood every now and then. I'm living in a place that's arguably the best place in Ecuador to be. It's growing too. Bit too much, actually. Traffic is getting worse. They are working on roads but not fast enough.

AGGGGGGGG. P, For real - my cousin and I tried to climb Tongarara about 1988 or so. What a great experience. We did not summit it. Stayed at a Rufugio at, 16,000 feet? Went to the peak where they had the dead climbers statue, did not summit. Looked wreached to the peak. Yeah, that would be tough for even acclimated people.
And Senor Presidente Rafael Correa repudiated the national debt owed to ewe gno hoo. He's no friend of the US narco enforcement machine that guarantees price stability for the CIA's clandestine "dope for democracy" program, and it assures a healthy return on the points charged by our beloved FEDERAL RESERVE for rinsing all that *cash. Everyone from Juan Valdez's burro to the eradication chopper pilots, immigration and customs officials to the town cops-"suspected drug munny forfeiture highwaymen" in Louisiana, the congress, the bankers and the celeb rehab centers and sentencing judges benefit from the phony drug war. And let's not even try to understand the self serving religious dogma of the "Step on the dope then step up to Jesus" fanatics who enlisted the aid of Gov. Clinton and the hit men that murdered the boys who stumbled on the shipment drop at Mena, and even the coroner who determined that one boy "fell asleep with his head on a railroad track". El Presidente won't help the US and their drug collaborators eliminate their competition, and there's nothing the "American Capitalism=Free Enterprise" megabuck murderers hate more than competition who can turn rogue and gasp! charge less for primo dope. The short sighted and soon to be dead competition may never learn (before they're incinerated with a laser guided LIVING HELL ON WINGS bomb) that price stability and supply management of dope (and diamonds) is crucial-the future of the free world depends on it. __________________________________________________ *(Al Pacino's high water mark SCARFACE accurately portrayed the South Florida bank laundries and the sliding scale of "points" they charge. It failed to finger the Vatican Bank, Chicago area banks and the Chicago Mercantile Exchange's involvement in sanitizing the majority of the world's narco profits however. Ann Cutler said radiation is good for you. You don't believe her? :) Lots of nuclear bombs have been exploded in the atmosphere yet the world's population is expanding like crazy. Hmm, maybe Ann has a point. ;) Seriously though, unless there is an explosion at Fukushima then I don't see how much of it would get in the atmosphere to come over here. Watch it yes, but don't panic about it unless you live in Japan. God is always good!
