Ron Paul Switches Gears

The day before the official debut of Brian Doherty’s Ron Paul’s Revolution — the new book on the man, his crusade and his many enthusiastic supporters — Ron Paul slipped his 2012 presidential campaign into neutral:

Our campaign will continue to work in the state convention process. We will continue to take leadership positions, win delegates, and carry a strong message to the Republican National Convention that Liberty is the way of the future.

Moving forward, however, we will no longer spend resources campaigning in primaries in states that have not yet voted.

Ron Paul Revolution
The BBC puts Ron Paul’s delegate count at 104, with frontrunner Mitt Romney 178 short of a lock on the nomination — but that’s at present, before the upcoming primaries. As the BBC concisely summarized Dr. Paul’s campaign, he had some successes in “several contests, in states such as Maine and Nevada,” gaining “some delegates and sometimes a significant portion of the popular vote. But he was viewed by the Republican establishment as a candidate outside party orthodoxy, and he did not manage to win a single primary election.”

Talk to a Ron Paul organizer, and you can hear harrowing tales of how the Republican establishment treated Paul’s supporters as outsiders. Despite such ill treatment, chronicler Brian Doherty compares Ron Paul’s future influence on the party to that of the past influence of Barry Goldwater. “His fans understand that Ron Paul is not just out to win an election.”

Dr. Paul’s near-term influence, though, is less obvious. In his 2008 outing he was shut out, and held his own very successful parallel rally. What he hopes to accomplish at the upcoming nominating convention remains to be seen. He concludes his letter with promise of further elaboration of his campaign’s delegate strategy. But his main thrust, in this letter and elsewhere, has been to build a long-lasting movement.

This is Common Sense. I’m Paul Jacob.

But he was viewed by the Republican establishment as a candidate outside party orthodoxy

This is shocking information. The only reason why Dr. Paul is viewed as outside "party" orthodoxy is because he's actually conservative and the republican party are big government socialist libs.

party orthodoxy

Orthodoxy mean "upright teaching." I see little of upstanding doctrine among the bluenoses the run and populate the republican party. They wage piratical war and call it defense, they are debauched with usury and call it prosperity, they bow to a police state and call themselves free men. They flaunt every lesson that the Founders conferred upon them.

I want nothing more to do with them.

Ron Paul has said time after time, he is a REPUBLICAN.

He was elected twelve times as a "republican".

His son is a REPUBLICAN Senator,

There are many reasons that tend to make some people consider Ron Paul a ....REPUBLICAN...

More comfortable???

I have been uncomfortable with everyone that professes allegiance to either "major party".

This idea favored by many that there are two parties has long been the bane of this country.

Yes, it's a two party fraud. Paul ran as a third party candidate in 1988.....how did that work out Cyni? How did it work out for Perot?

Paul professes allegiance to liberty and the Constitution. Hence, no McStain endorsement and a run at the executive as a Libertarian. You conveniently like to omit that data in your analysis. He also consistently votes liberty and Constitution when the rest of his party is voting against it....he's done so for decades. So, your claim that he is a party man flies in the face of his record.

Ron Paul said that he dropped out in 1988 at the request of Pat Buchanan. I seem to recall that.

Ron Paul said that he dropped out in 1988 at the request of Pat Buchanan. I seem to recall that.

I don't. He dropped out because he couldn't get any traction in a third party run, which is consistent with the reasoning of all third party candidates in this nation.

It's hard to trust your recall when you omit so much data if it conflicts and contradicts your opinions/beliefs about Dr. Paul.

I don't.

If you have time, why not check to see if Ron dropped out in 88 at Pats request? I might well be wrong.

Done. He didn't even "drop out" as you claim.

In the 1988 presidential election, Paul was on the ballot in 46 States,[37] scoring third in the popular vote with 432,179 votes (0.5%).[38] Paul was kept off the ballot in Missouri, and received votes there only when written in, due to what the St. Louis Post-Dispatch termed a "technicality".[39]

According to Paul, his presidential campaign was about more than obtaining office; he sought to promote his libertarian ideas, often to school and university groups regardless of vote eligibility. He said, "We're just as interested in the future generation as this election. These kids will vote eventually, and maybe, just maybe, they'll go home and talk to their parents."[37] (Wiki)

He ran on his principles then and he does the same now.

As for Buchanan.........you have the wrong year all together.

Paul considered campaigning for President during 1992,[40] but instead chose to endorse Pat Buchanan that year, and served as an adviser to Buchanan's Republican presidential primary campaign against incumbent President George H. W. Bush.[41]
